This book is about a homeless dog who did not give up dancing at Columbus Circle after persistently being discouraged by friends. He lost his master and went to hide in an animal shelter. Later, he became a famous artiste in a secret city built by pets beneath Central Park, New York City.
Kijo wants nothing more in the world than to have an established family foundation for his daughter, Miracle. Yet he faces so many trials that keep him from reaching his dream. Daria, Miracle’s mother, is a constant thorn in his side. Kole, his drug addict brother, is a barrier in himself. But he has his best friend, Slim, to keep his ambition high. Kijo also comes across Evina, a stripper that he can’t keep his mind off. Will Kijo be able to stay true to his dreams of providing a better life for his daughter? Or will he lose sight when his life begins to spiral out of control in front of his eyes?

A riveting second novel that unfolds over the course of Thanksgiving Day as two families are connected by a horrific crime.
"The pioneering writer Higuchi Ichiyō (1872–1896) has been described as “the last woman of old Japan,” a consummate stylist of classical prose, whose command of the linguistic and rhetorical riches of the premodern tradition might suggest that her writings are relics of the past with no concern for the problems of modern life. Timothy Van Compernolle investigates the social dimensions of Ichiyō’s artistic imagination and argues that she creatively reworked the Japanese literary tradition in order to understand, confront, and critique the emerging modernity of the Meiji period. For Ichiyō, the classical canon was a reservoir of tropes and paradigms that could be reshaped and renewed as a way to explore the sociopolitical transformations of the 1890s and cast light upon the human costs of modernization. Drawing critical momentum from the dialogical theory of Mikhail Bakhtin, the author explores in five of Ichiyō’s best known stories how traditional rhetoric and literary devices are dialogically engaged with discourses associated with modernity within the pages of Ichiyō’s narratives. In its close, sensitive readings of Ichiyō’s oeuvre, The Uses of Memory not only complicates the scholarly discussion of her position in the Japanese literary canon, but also broaches larger theoretical issues."
Donald Keene's definitive history of modern Japanese literature is an achievement beyond the range and scope of any other western writer.
Suzume needs to unify the four soul fragments, but can she trust Kazue’s reincarnation? For the first time in her life, Suzume has opened her heart to love. Even with her family in Hisato’s clutches, she feels optimistic that with Kaito and her friends at her side, they’ll conquer the darkness together. Their final task is to find the last soul fragment. But the Water of Kazue’s soul has joined forces with Hisato, helping him grow his hybrid army. And even more troubling, she claims to be Kazue’s reincarnation. Kaito’s enemies are trying to destabilize his reformed kingdom. And to make matters worse, the woman he loves thinks he’s hung up on his past. Kazue’s reincarnation has complicated his life, in more ways than one. He and Suzume need to be united in their fight against Hisato. While they squabble, Hisato’s grip tightens on Akatsuki and his influence reaches farther. They have to defeat Hisato before his monstrous army grows too powerful and conquers all of Akatsuki. Sealing Hisato requires resonance between all four fragments of Kazue’s soul. To defeat against Hisato, they have to capture the water of Kazue’s soul first. But when one of their own betrays them, it turns all their plans upside down. As anarchy consumes Akatsuki, their last hope lies in the flames of vengeance burning in Suzume’s heart. But is she alone enough to defeat the darkness?
Of all the different areas in computational chemistry, density functional theory (DFT) enjoys the most rapid development. Even at the level of the local density approximation (LDA), which is computationally less demanding, DFT can usually provide better answers than Hartree-Fock formalism for large systems such as clusters and solids. For atoms and molecules, the results from DFT often rival those obtained by ab initio quantum chemistry, partly because larger basis sets can be used. Such encouraging results have in turn stimulated workers to further investigate the formal theory as well as the computational methodology of DFT.This volume contains ten contributions from active workers in DFT, covering topics from basic principles to methodology to applications. In the Foreword, Prof Walter Kohn gives his perspective on the recent advances in DFT. Because DFT is being developed in so many different directions, no single volume can provide a complete review of DFT. However, this volume will help both beginners and experimentalists to read the growing DFT literature more easily.
