In this book, David Novak conducts an historical, philosophical and theological reflection on the central Jewish doctrine of Israel's election by God, also known as the idea of the chosen people. Historically, he analyses the great change in modern Jewish thought brought about by Spinoza's inversion of the doctrine: that it was not God who elected Israel, but Israel who elected God. The development of that inversion is illustrated by the thought of the German philosopher-theologian, Hermann Cohen. Philosophically, Novak explores the ontological implications of the two differing theologies of election. Theologically, he argues for the correlation of election and revelation, and maintains that a theology of election is required in order to deal with two central questions, namely: who are the Jews, and how are Jews to be related to the world? The constructive picture which results leads to a fresh understanding of Jewish modernity.
Akenson brings to light critical similarities among three politically troubled nations: South Africa, Israel, and Northern Ireland.
From the streets of Atlanta to the alleys of Jerusalem, Chosen People is an international legal drama where hidden motives thrive, the risk of death is real, and the search for truth has many faces. During a terrorist attack near the Western Wall in Jerusalem, a courageous mother sacrifices her life to save her four-year-old daughter, leaving behind a grieving husband and a motherless child. Hana Abboud, a Christian Arab Israeli lawyer trained at Hebrew University, typically uses her language skills to represent international clients for an Atlanta law firm. When her boss is contacted by Jakob Brodsky, a young Jewish lawyer pursuing a lawsuit on behalf of the woman’s family under the US Anti-Terrorism laws, he calls on Hana’s expertise to take point on the case. After careful prayer, she joins forces with Jakob, and they quickly realize the need to bring in a third member for their team, an Arab investigator named Daud Hasan, based in Israel. As the case evolves, this team of investigators will uncover truths that will forever change their understanding of justice, heritage, and what it means to be chosen for a greater purpose. First of the Chosen People novels (Chosen People, Promised Land) Christian fiction set in the USA and in Israel Full-length novel (over 120,000 words)

In this careful and provocative study, Chad Thornhill considers how Second Temple understandings of election influenced key Pauline texts with sensitivity to social, historical and literary factors. While Paul is able to move beyond ancient categories of a collective view of election, Thornhill shows how he also follows these patterns.
On May 14, 1948, Israel became a nation. Now, 63 years later, many nations of the world have declared that Israel must be wiped from the map. God is not surprised. He told us that all nations would turn against Israel. Are you surprised at this development? Did you ever think the United States and Great Britain, et al, would turn against Israel? The tiny nation of Israel, God's chosen people, has or soon will become the enemy of all nations. Prophecy, fulfilled, is confirmation of the authenticity of the Bible. Now it is time to turn to prophecies which detail the "final events prior to God's unleashing His righteous judgment on the enemies of Israel. Recall that after the great flood only 8 persons survived. Why was nearly all mankind wiped out during that event? God was angered with the attitudes and actions of the people. Sin was rampant. Disobedience documented the lifestyle of people who had become self centered and self righteous. The people of the world ignored the commands of God. Is history about to repeat itself? Are we approaching a time of sinful self indulgence never before equaled? Are we sliding toward Armageddon at a precipitous pace?
