Isoke, a native African with white skin and golden hair, is a resilient teenager who encounters immense adversities which are essentially the corollaries of her skin condition. The abyss is dark, but she sees light in the form of an extraordinary power - the ability to rid people of their torment. Her life takes a whole new course when two gruesome murders leave village Mauho in a state of unmitigated dismay. With the help of her affable English teacher, Isoke decides to take matters into her own hands even though it comes at the cost of her own well-being. While she’s at it, her father undertakes a new occupation that gives his life a new, abominable turn - the consequences of which change Isoke’s life forever. This story of hope, loss, resilience and reorganising society unravels the potential of an unusual teenager who takes a stand against those who loathe her existence by choosing to underline a new standard of beauty - one that goes far beyond physical attractiveness.

Broadening the Contours in the Study of Black Politics, volume 17 of the National Political Science Review (NPSR), is divided thematically into two books, available separately or as a set. The first concentrates on the institutional aspects of Black politics. The second book addresses various dimensions of social capital that constitute the fundamental building blocks of Black politics. Each contains peer-reviewed articles, a symposium section, and book reviews, as well as other featured sections.Together, these books build on the previous NPSR volume, Black Women in Politics. The symposium in Volume 17:1 examines the struggle of Black women, both in the political science discipline and in getting their work published. In the symposium section of Volume 17:2, members of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists carry on a revealing conversation about the dilemmas of professional life for Black women in political science. The set also contains a section called "Trends," which offers data to use as starting points for discussions in teaching, on professional panels, or in the mass media, regarding the new versions of the Voting Rights Act after the Shelby County v. Holder decision of 2013. Both volumes 17:1 and 17:2 contain rigorously vetted articles on significant themes in the study of Black politics. This set represents the most recent offering in the distinguished National Political Science Review series.

This leads to the discovery of an extremely rich vein of Blue Diamonds that Jack Murray develops into a small but successful mining company with the assistance of a well known diamond producer. With persuasion from disgruntled investors, Jack buys back the company at a rock bottom price that includes a lease to a diamond mine in the turbulent African country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With his partner, Jack relocates to the eastern regions of the troubled DRC and re-opens the mine with the help of untrained but enthusiastic local workers. In the context of sustained economic and environmental crises, marked by extreme inequalities of wealth, rising xenophobia, racism and precarity, never has the need for a radical change of system been so pressing. This book is an invitation to think the world otherwise. The author breathes new life into socialist thought through the deployment of an intersectional lens, bringing diverse struggles for emancipation both within and outside the Global North into dialogue with one another. In doing so, he offers the kind of bold and holistic thinking the present situation calls for.
