Ryker wakes up face down in beach sand, the sky is blue, the sea placid. But his clothes are ripped and torn, he has one boot on, driftwood abounds, all testimony to the sea's devastating fury. But where is Tiara? After hours of wondering about the island, he spots her in what seems to be captivity of a giant, with muscles and beads on his wrists and chest. Ryker believes he will have to fight this giant. He rushes forward to unleash a blow to the giant's stomach, then recoils in pain holding his fist. Tiara informs Ryker happily that the giant he just attacked is "Hoppy," whom they both come to find possesses supernatural powers. Turns out that Hoppy is there not by accident, but to provide a Divine protection to the couple. Hoppy is a gift of luck, providing protection, guidance, and a culinary artistry, and the tumultuous shipwreck that led them there recedes into memory. Ryker and Tiara find that maybe after all Hoppy might just have the power to grant them three wishes.
The Priest and The Princess is an anthology of the first ten short stories in the series written by A. J. Kretzmar.
A bewildering series of events overwhelms Ryker - separated from Tiara again, who is in Sasha's clutches, shackled in a ship that is listing and about to sink - Ryker has to think fast. His Navy SEALs training comes in handy, as he reacts instinctively to find some way out of the darkness of his present situation. He thinks back to the choices that he has made in his life that have led him here, right now, bloodied and bruised and left for dead. Even though an expert marksman that could unwaveringly hit a bulls-eye, Ryker considers that the toughest steel he developed was inside his mind. SEALs training helped him overcome scenarios he never thought he had the endurance of the capacity to survive, but no part of training could have prepared him for his present day situation. All he can think of is to find a way to survive so that he can find Tiara, for she is now he is sure the biggest part of his destiny.
Ryker Harrison is an investigator hot on the trail of high-end luxury counterfeiters of jewelry. He engineers a chance meeting with Tiara, the wife of the counterfeiter, but when he meets her, he is overcome by feelings that he has to protect her from her husband, an insanely jealous psychopathic killer named Sasha. Ryker realizes that his meeting with Tiara has forever blurred the distinction between work, and the affairs of the heart, and he realizes that they forged a connection, so strong, and so powerful, that it could get them both killed. His hunch is proved correct. He shows Tiara that her purse has a transmitter in it, broadcasting her every move. Yet, she insists on taking her children away from her husband in a final act of defiance. A Navy SEAL that went to seminary school, Ryker has to make use of all his talents and abilities in counterinsurgency if he is to keep his new love interest alive. But could she truly trust him, and he her, in enough time to avert disaster?
When Ryker met Tiara a connection, a spark, ignited between them that is erupting into blazing hot emotions all around them. Tiara is concerned about keeping her marriage intact, but her husband Sasha sees the world in only absolutes - Black, or White. Ryker is on the trail of Tiara, watching to keep her safe while she is in Sasha's vengeful hands. Gold bullion coins, the biggest stash in recent history, have been grabbed by Sasha, and his counterfeiting days are over. He has the Gold, unique, one-of-a-kind coins, and believes that he can entice Tiara's love again. But Tiara has been down that road many times with him, and proves more headstrong that he gives her credit for. Spurned, Sasha devises a set-up that will implicate Tiara, but when Ryker is discovered, Sasha decides the time has come to tidy up the loose ends - and get rid of Tiara and Ryker with one foul swoop.
A fishing boat moored among the yachts off the Mediterranean coast, and Ryker has taken Tiara along with him as he undertakes surveillance on behalf of his well-heeled clients. But Tiara is the wife of one of the most notorious counterfeiters and gangsters on the planet, whose jealousy over his wife is exceeded only by his viciousness. Spurned and beaten by her husband, Tiara begins slowly to trust and feel safe in Ryker's company. His background as a Navy SEAL will come in handy as he aims to take a closer look at the boat parked off the coastline. With their scuba gear, Ryker and Tiara pose as tourists enjoying a snorkeling adventure - but they get close enough to the underside of the boat to see a dredging operation underway. Ryker knows that Tiara's husband Sasha is behind it all, but their presence does not go undetected. Divers in scuba gear and spear guns surround them, and Ryker realizes that he has led himself and Tiara slap bang smack in the middle of the Zone of Danger.
Hoppy agrees to accompany Ryker and help him wreak revenge on his nemesis Sasha, who left Ryker for dead and robbed him of the woman he loves - albeit it Sasha's wife. Sasha imprisoned Tiara in an insane asylum outside of Paris, never expecting that Ryker with the help of the genie Hoppy will arrive at his door. In a very real game of cat and mouse Sasha reveals that Tiara is indeed alive, and Ryker instructs Hoppy that they will free her that night. They set off through winding streets at breakneck speed, as if the Devil himself was chasing them, and there, in the rank confines of this hell on earth, Ryker reunites with Tiara. They leave Sasha in the confines of the asylum and the Count LeGrand, they set off for the port and passage to "their" Island. On the way, Hoppy explains to them the theory of "Causality," the cog that turns the wheel of possibility.
Hoppy, Tiara, and Ryker fall once again into the hands of the maniacal Sasha, felled by tranquilizer darts and a team of goons who capture them off their tranquil island. "Torch this place!" Sasha instructs his henchmen. Sasha leaves Hoppy to die in the flames, taking Tiara and Ryker with him as hostages. But while airborne, Sasha kicks Ryker out, to Tiara's shocked cries. Ryker's Navy SEAL training gives him the only chance few others could have. He goes back to rescue Hoppy from death. Ryker figures that since Sasha could track Tiara with a chip, he could reverse-engineer the tracking device to find her again. Hoppy tells Ryker he is destined to be with Tiara, who is turn is being told by Sasha that he will never let her go. When Tiara rejects his advances, his vindictiveness is unparalleled, and he banishes her to a place far, far away. Ryker finally realizes he is left with no choice but to find her again. But will he be able to is an unanswered question in this love triangle gone wrong.
Drugged and shackled to the briefcase with gold coins, and to each other, Ryker and Tiara have been left on the yacht to die. To make matters worse, Sasha set a fire onboard, which is beginning to rage. The key is to find a way to be freed, but Ryker wants to take the briefcase too, knowing that if left behind its contents can be incriminating to Tiara and himself. They get to a life raft, but safety is not the order of the day. The life raft drifts and bobs into a sea of storms, where pelting rain and heaving seas await them. The storm erupts, the mood dark and foreboding, when suddenly there is a loud crack and the splintering of wood - the life raft's demise a foregone conclusion. Ryker and Tiara hold onto each other, kiss, then go down into the swell.
