This book explores the impact of globalization on self and identity from multidisciplinary perspectives. Chapters cover a variety of topics including the impact of cultural inertia on intergroup relations, global consumer identity, radicalization, evolving national identities, young people’s negotiations of different cultural identities, the emergence of all inclusive global identities, and the impact of global citizenship education on global identity. This collection will be of value to scholars and students from across the social sciences.
This is the fifteenth volume in an annual series in which leading economists provide a concise and accessible evaluation of major developments in trade and trade policy. Examines key issues pertinent to the multinational trading system, as well as regional trade arrangements and policy developments at the national level Provides up-to-date assessments of the World Trade Organization's current Trade Policy Reviews Analyses trade policy in areas such as Japan, Indonesia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates Investigates the challenge of aligning the mission, means, and legitimacy of international organizations Contributors including John Walley and Jan Aart Scholte also examine the concept of globalization – both its definition and its values A vital resource for researchers, analysts, and policy-advisors interested in trade policy and other open economy issues
This publication focuses attention on the local processes that can deliver the MDGs with regard to poverty reduction and sustainable resource use.
Through work integrated learning (WIL), students, graduates, academics, businesses, employees, governments and communities are empowered to engage in lifelong learning, develop multidisciplinary skills; master technological applications, become a virtual employer or employee, become an entrepreneurial professional and expert, and integrate diversity consciousness into their lives. While individual, economic, community, national and global challenges abound in this regard, this book offers creative solutions that can radically shift perspectives, attitudes and beliefs. It encourages taking a local, national, and global outlook, building ethical borderless businesses and economies, engaging in the 4IR and gig economy, and embracing human-AI integration, among others. The book provides the reader with a helicopter view of global WIL trends, propelling them to co-create and become an entrepreneurial, lifelong learning student of life.
Shape grammar and space syntax have been separately developed but rarely combined in any significant way. The first of these is typically used to investigate or generate the formal or geometric properties of architecture, while the second is used to analyze the spatial, topological, or social properties of architecture. Despite the reciprocal relationship between form and space in architecture—it is difficult to conceptualize a completed building without a sense of both of these properties—the two major computational theories have been largely developed and applied in isolation from each another. Grammatical and Syntactical Approaches in Architecture: Emerging Research and Opportunities is a critical scholarly resource that explores the relationship between shape grammar and space syntax for urban planning and architecture and enables the creative discovery of both the formal and spatial features of an architectural style or type. This book, furthermore, presents a new method to selectively capture aspects of both the grammar and syntax of architecture. Featuring a range of topics such as mathematical analysis, spatial configuration, and domestic architecture, this book is essential for architects, policymakers, urban planners, researchers, academicians, and students.
There are millions of searchable data sources on the Web and to a large extent their contents can only be reached through their own query interfaces. There is an enormous interest in making the data in these sources easily accessible. There are primarily two general approaches to achieve this objective. The first is to surface the contents of these sources from the deep Web and add the contents to the index of regular search engines. The second is to integrate the searching capabilities of these sources and support integrated access to them. In this book, we introduce the state-of-the-art techniques for extracting, understanding, and integrating the query interfaces of deep Web data sources. These techniques are critical for producing an integrated query interface for each domain. The interface serves as the mediator for searching all data sources in the concerned domain. While query interface integration is only relevant for the deep Web integration approach, the extraction and understanding of query interfaces are critical for both deep Web exploration approaches. This book aims to provide in-depth and comprehensive coverage of the key technologies needed to create high quality integrated query interfaces automatically. The following technical issues are discussed in detail in this book: query interface modeling, query interface extraction, query interface clustering, query interface matching, query interface attribute integration, and query interface integration.
