In his play As You Like It, William Shakespeare wrote, "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players." The process of technology integration in the elementary schools can be described as a dramatic endeavor, made up of various players and scenery changes, all acted upon through the work of various writers and directors and culminating in an outcome which changes with each performance over time. In this research study, I look deeply at one of those ensemble casts and tell the story of technology integration through the perspective of the technology coordinator. By using this lens to view the change process, the results of this study provide information on the process of technology integration within the elementary school environment and the role of the technology coordinator as a change agent within the process. The subject for this study was a technology coordinator serving two elementary school buildings within a rural school district in the Midwest. The Comet School District entered into a collaborative grant agreement with Midwest University and the Local Area Education Agency and began a journey through the change process surrounding the integration of technology into the elementary school curriculum. Interviews were conducted with the technology coordinator, the program coordinator, school administration and the teaching staff, undergraduate students and representatives of the Local Area Education Agency. Other data sources included artifacts of student projects, documents representing school policy and field observations. These data were analyzed and three themes emerged: the change process, collaboration and its role in change, and the role of professional development to the success of innovation adoption. This case study presents the story of the technology coordinator's journey as she was immersed in the change process. The story chronicles not only the growth of the technology coordinator as a professional, but the changes in the teaching staff, the administration, and the organizations involved in the process.
