Excerpt from Injuries and Diseases of the Jaws: The Jacksonian Prize Essay of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 1867 "The Injuries and Diseases of the Jaws, including those of the Antrum, with the treatment by operation or otherwise," having been announced as the subject for the Jacksonian Prize of 1867, I prepared an essay upon the subject, to which I had for some years devoted considerable attention ,* and having been successful, I have printed it with but slight alterations. My very best thanks are due to those gentlemen (whose names will be found in the following list) who, by generously placing valuable preparations of disease at my disposal, enabled me to study the pathology of the subject more successfully than I could otherwise have done, and also to those who have kindly given me notes of interesting cases under their charge, or have lent me valuable illustrations, of which due acknowledgment has been made in each instance. I venture to hope that the information thus brought together may be of service to those under whose care similar eases may be placed.
