"Fall Creek Bridge 36-45 was originally constructed in 1937. The bridge's substructure was constructed of timber. Major center span repairs consisting of replacing the timber 'A' frame and bents with steel counterparts were made in 1952. The bridge, as it exists today, is comprised of a 50-foot steel 'A' frame center span and 19+- foot wooden stringer end span. Reconstruction of the bridge is necessary because of the structural components of the timber framed end spans are decaying. If this condition is not corrected the deterioration eventually will require reducing the vehicle weights allowed on the bridge and ultimately, closure of the bridge to protect public safety"--Page 1, Initial study.
