The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is responsible for conducting a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning process in the Indianapolis region. Planners from the City of Indianapolis, Department of Metropolitan Development, Division of Planning, Transportation Section serve as the staff for the Metropolitan Planning Organization. The MPO provides planning for air quality and transportation-related issues such as streets, highways, mass transit, light rail, buses, bus routes and other modes of travel.
Describes the Indianapolis Regional Transportation Planning Program, which is an on-going, cooperative effort by state, local, and federal governments to identify the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area transportation needs, provide a factual basis for public policies, prepare plans, and maintain a comprehensive transportation planning process.
