Excerpt: ...already given to your grounds of contest of my election as representative to Congress from the first district of Maine, that I shall rely on the following reason why your contest should not be allowed, to wit: In the town of Hollis, in said district, in counting the votes for representative to Congress, six ballots bearing your name as candidate were twice counted through the mistake of the town officers, and their return of the votes from that town for you was in excess of the real number cast for you to the number of six in consequence of such double counting, and I claim the right to offer proof of the foregoing.
