Excerpt from Index of Generic Names of Fossil Plants, 1820-1950 This work comprises an index of generic names of fossil plants, exclusive of the diatoms, that have been published from 1820 through 1950. It is based on the U. S. Geological Survey's working Compendium Index of Paleobotany and its ac companying bibliography. Although several hundred genera have been added by the author, it is realized that the list' is not complete, particularly for the past two decades. An attempt has been made to cite for each genus a type species, or one that is representative. In addition a brief notation is given concerning the age, geo graphic origin, and taxonomic status of most of the fossils. For some plants this information is further supplemented with such notations as seemed desirable to aid most effectively those persons who may have occasion to seek the type of in formation that is presented. It may be emphasized that this is not a critical study but is intended rather as an informational source concerning the origin of the respective generic concepts. The introduction includes a sketch of the historical origin of the Compendium and states in some detail the types of problems encountered in presenting the work in this form. The bibliography presents primarily the full citations of those references indicated in the index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Index of Generic Names of Fossil Plants, 1966-1973 This supplement follows the same general format used in the 1970 Index, except that the titles of Russian articles are both transliterated and translated. This makes for longer individual citations, but it also expedites access to the Russian literature. Where more than one author has chosen the same name to describe a fossil plant, the publication bearing the earliest date is the one that has been selected for inclusion in this supplement.
