(from Afterword) 'My interest in this, what can I call him, this Australian psycho, came about because of my efforts at writing and publishing accounts of the cases of the famous Queensland detective, Doctor Watson Holmes Jackamara. Unfortunately my interest in the case from the position of my subject palled, for as Jackamara said: ‘This bloke left a trail that you could follow in a four wheel driver.’ Because of this, I was about to conclude that there was little interest in writing the case up, but when I had my first interview with Dr. Jefferson Davis. I instantly saw that this was where the interest lay. Dr. Jeff Davis at that first interview expressed interest in being the subject of a book. To some extent I agreed with him and continued the interviews. When he was not under the complete control of his medication or his delusions, he was quite, well, charming. I also found a fascination in delving into the perverted mind of this serial killer, a unique but brutal man who, thankfully, for the good of the world, remains incarcerated in a hospital for the criminally insane hopefully for the rest of his life. In my judgment, formed over a hundred and ten interviews, he is too great a danger, to society and to women in general, to be ever released. I found him utterly incorrigible, a psychotic who not only believed his fantasies to be real, but used them to initiate a series of murders which he labeled as acts of vengeance. His deeds shocked Queensland at the time and the Courier Mail headlined it as AN INDECENT OBSESSION.' - Mudrooroo An Indecent Obsession is a new novel from the author of Wild Cat Falling.

theSkimm Reading Pick! Blurring the lines of blame and moral ambiguity, Indecent by Corinne Sullivan is a smart, sexy debut. Shy, introverted Imogene Abney has always been fascinated by the elite world of prep schools, having secretly longed to attend one since she was a girl in Buffalo, New York. So, shortly after her college graduation, when she’s offered a teaching position at the Vandenberg School for Boys, an all-boys prep school in Westchester, New York, she immediately accepts, despite having little teaching experience—and very little experience with boys. When Imogene meets handsome, popular Adam Kipling a few weeks into her tenure there, a student who exudes charm and status and ease, she’s immediately drawn to him. Who is this boy who flirts with her without fear of being caught? Who is this boy who seems immune to consequences and worry; a boy for whom the world will always provide? As an obsessive, illicit affair begins between them, Imogene is so lost in the haze of first love that she’s unable to recognize the danger she’s in. The danger of losing her job. The danger of losing herself in the wrong person. The danger of being caught doing something possibly illegal and so indecent. Exploring issues of class, sex, and gender, this smart, sexy debut by Corrine Sullivan shatters the black-and-white nature of victimhood, taking a close look at blame and moral ambiguity.
Originally published in 1990, Psychoanalysis and... brings together essays by critics whose work demonstrates the lively interpenetration of psychoanalysis and other disciplines. Andrew Ross investigates psychoanalysis and Marxist thought; Joel Fineman reads the "sound of O" in Othello; Jane Gallop asks "Why does Freud giggle when the women leave the room?"; and Ellie Ragland-Sullivan examines Lacan’s seminars on James Joyce. This stimulating collection of work should still be required reading, especially for students of literature. But Psychoanalysis and... demonstrates that psychoanalysis – and theoretical criticism, and feminism, and Lacanian theory, and semiotics, and Marxism, and deconstruction, and literary criticism – was, at the time, a rich and expanding terrain.

With his Frontier Touring Company, Gudinski has toured The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Sting ... pretty much a who's who of the arena level international music scene.A self-made multi-millionaire, Gudinski is the Australian equivalent of Richard Branson or David Geffen, but who is this tough, inspired, flamboyant and impassioned businessman who has shaped Australian popular culture? Where did he come from, and how has he stayed relevant for so long in an industry notorious for its fickleness? Rock journalist Stuart Coupe delves into Gudinski's life to find the answers - and in doing so gives us a backstage pass to forty years of Australian rock.
Slavoj Žižek is one of the world's foremost cultural commentators: a prolific writer and thinker, whose vividly adventurous, unorthodox and wide-ranging writings have won him a unique place as one of the most high profile thinkers of our time. Covering psychoanalysis, philosophy and popular culture and drawing on a heady mix of Marxist politics, Hegelian dialectics and Lacanian psychoanalysis, the writings collected in Interrogating the Real reflect not only the remarkable extent of Žižek's varied interests, but also reveal his controversial and dynamic style.
