There are a few narrations from the Prophet ﷺ that encourage Muslims to recite Sūrah al-Kahf on a weekly basis. That is why it is a common practice across the world to recite Sūrah al-Kahf on Fridays. This is a beautiful practice that helps strengthen one's relationship with the Quran and builds a culture of recitation. However, more important than simply reciting the Sūrah as a ritual is connecting with it emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and trying our best to understand its message and apply its guidance into our daily lives. This work explores the meanings, lessons, reminders, benefits, morals, and guidance of Sūrah al-Kahf based on classical and contemporary sources.
This volume explores the meanings, lessons, and reminders of Sūrah Maryam. Sūrah Maryam is the 19th Sūrah in the Quran. It is a relatively long Makkan Sūrah made up of 98 verses. Some commentators mention that it's the 44th Sūrah to be revealed, after Sūrah al-Fāṭir and before Sūrah ṬāHā. It has been given the name Maryam because Allah ﷻ mentions the story of Maryam (as) and her family and how she miraculously gave birth to ʿIsā (as) at the beginning of the Sūrah. Just like other Makkan revelation, it deals with the most fundamental aspects of our faith. It talks about the existence and oneness of Allah ﷻ, prophethood, and resurrection and recompense. The Sūrah is made up of a series of unique stories filled with guidance and lessons that are meant as reminders. One of the main themes of this Surah is the infinite, limitless, all-encompassing, and divine mercy of Allah ﷻ. Mercy, or raḥmah, has been mentioned over 16 times in this beautiful and powerful Sūrah. We'll find the words of grace, compassion, and their synonyms frequently mentioned throughout the Sūrah, together with Allah's attributes of beneficence and mercy. We can say that one of the objectives of the Sūrah is to establish and affirm the attribute of mercy for Allah ﷻ. That's why all of the stories mentioned also have to do with Allah's mercy.
The importance of aḥādīth and the Sunnah within the framework of Islam cannot be overemphasized; they are foundational aspects of our belief and practice. There are two primary sources of Islam: The Quran and Sunnah. Broadly speaking, the Quran provides us with general rules, principles, morals, values, ethics, and ideas while the Sunnah provides the details. In other words, the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is a detailed explanation of what is mentioned by Allah ﷻ in the Quran. It is impossible to act upon the Quran, to follow its guidance, teachings, commands, and prohibitions without the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.

Providing commentary on three oft-recited chapters of the Holy Qur'an, this excerpt of the monumental discourse by 18th-century mystic and scholar Ahmad ibn 'Ajiba presents both an example of Islamic erudition based on traditional sources as well as insight into his own personal journey of discovery. Each verse is expounded upon with an exoteric explanation as well as related with an esoteric commentary to the mystic path of Islam, Sufism. As one of the few scholarly translations of traditional Qur'anic exegesis, this volume affords the previously unacquainted access not only to how educated Muslims have understood the dominant themes of these three chapters since the earliest days of Islam but also to how traditional Sufic sources have viewed the same themes in respect to the microcosm of the soul and the journey towards God.
