I have compiled this book as I believe in the power of the Word. Correctly used and interpreted, the Word is a strong ally in helping to affect feelings, attitudes, and actions you may take. I have worked on and collected this series of quotations over a long period of my working and personal life, but until now, I have only shared some of them with family, friends, and associates. They have been my inspiration when I needed moral support and mental understanding and guidance in moments of need. As you will appreciate, I cannot outline my life experiences and how all these quotations have affected me, but I will outline some of the major benefits and solutions. Some of these quotations have helped me resolve many personal and business situations in my life.
The year is 1349, the place, England. As the bubonic shadow across the land, Mary Beckett finds herself alone and desperate. Her father, a physician who has been accused of consorting with the devil, has been murdered. Even her own interest in medicine has brought cries of witchcraft. Mary's only hope is to journey north to the home of her godly grandmother, a woman her father once rejected. Doctors and pilgrims will cross her path, and, last but not least, Peter Donne, a knight on a mission from the king. Hundreds will beg her to heal them. Will Mary Beckett, a lonely pilgrim herself, find a way to help her people and herself? If only she could reach her grandmother's home, if only she could find her own way to God...

Discover the essential thinking tools you’ve been missing with The Great Mental Models series by Shane Parrish, New York Times bestselling author and the mind behind the acclaimed Farnam Street blog and “The Knowledge Project” podcast. This first book in the series is your guide to learning the crucial thinking tools nobody ever taught you. Time and time again, great thinkers such as Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett have credited their success to mental models–representations of how something works that can scale onto other fields. Mastering a small number of mental models enables you to rapidly grasp new information, identify patterns others miss, and avoid the common mistakes that hold people back. The Great Mental Models: Volume 1, General Thinking Concepts shows you how making a few tiny changes in the way you think can deliver big results. Drawing on examples from history, business, art, and science, this book details nine of the most versatile, all-purpose mental models you can use right away to improve your decision making and productivity. This book will teach you how to: Avoid blind spots when looking at problems. Find non-obvious solutions. Anticipate and achieve desired outcomes. Play to your strengths, avoid your weaknesses, … and more. The Great Mental Models series demystifies once elusive concepts and illuminates rich knowledge that traditional education overlooks. This series is the most comprehensive and accessible guide on using mental models to better understand our world, solve problems, and gain an advantage.
This elegantly translated collection of Heidegger’s private later writings is “illuminating to some of his most difficult discussions.” (Phillip Braunstein, Loyola Marymount College). Martin Heidegger’s The Event offers the most in-depth articulation of his later work’s most foundational concept, as well as his most substantial self-critique of his Contributions to Philosophy: Of the Event. Written between 1936 and 1944, and published posthumously as volume 71 of his Complete Works, The Event collects Heidegger’s private writings in response to his Contributions. Richard Rojcewicz’s faithful and straightforward translation offers the English-speaking reader intimate contact with the author’s process of formulating some of his most important concepts. This book lays out how the Event is to be understood and ties it closely to looking, showing, self-manifestation, and the self-unveiling of the gods.
Elizabeth Holmes uses case studies to provide practical advice and solutions to enable teachers to experience less negative stress in their lives, and understand the links between the way they function in the classroom and their personal well-being.
