This volume presents a collection of articles which offer different perspectives for archaeological pottery studies, regarding the understanding of pre-Hispanic social practices in Quebrada de Humahuaca, Argentina. The aim of this volume is to contribute to Quebrada de Humahuaca archaeological knowledge and its inclusion in current discussions about Andean and worldwide history of pottery production. In 2003, Quebrada de Humahuaca was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous tracks, roads and settlements testify to its pre-Hispanic and post pre-Hispanic history from pre-ceramic to colonial times. Due to its strategic position Quebrada de Humahuaca has been colonized by both the Inca and the Spaniards. It also has been a stage for many battles of the Argentine War of Independence. The richness and abundance of ceramic material evidence in the landscape of the Quebrada de Humahuaca has provided archaeologists information about human behaviour and social practices both in every and ritual activities. Quebrada de Humahuaca, in the province of Jujuy (the northernmost sector of Argentina) is one of the most widely recognized archaeological zones and one of the most widely studied. Through extensive excavations of the most conspicuous settlements, archaeologists managed to characterize these pre-Hispanic agricultural societies and construct chronologies of northwestern Argentina, and to elaborate models of trans-Andean population dynamics.

This book examines smart cities through the lens of the information and communication technology (ICT)-driven transformation of the economy and economic systems and the resulting changes influencing organizations (public, private, and voluntary) and citizens in the smart city. In this context, the chapters included in this book address very specific questions pertaining to modes and models of economic collaboration, interest aggregation, and determinants of sustainable growth and development in the smart city. To this end, the circular economy, the sharing economy, the platform economy, and open innovation in the smart city are discussed. Este libro es un proyecto académico en el que se presentan diversos debates teóricos, reflexiones, casos de estudio y experiencias en los que se profundiza en diversos ejes de análisis sobre el fenómeno turístico, sus impactos, tensiones y prácticas sociales relacionadas con la cultura. Es un aporte al análisis y profundización de esta temática, dada su importante trascendencia en América Latina. Esperamos que los artículos, que han sido producto de la reflexión teórica o de la práctica investigativa, aporten al avance del conocimiento en la relación entre estos ejes, a partir de reflexiones teóricas, casos de estudio y análisis comparativos en relación con diversos territorios que le apuestan al turismo El libro se estructura en tres ejes de análisis. El primero, relacionado con las “Políticas públicas y el turismo cultural”; el segundo, enfocado a las “Dinámicas sociales, culturales y simbólicas en las relaciones entre turismo y cultura” y, el último, aporta a la comprensión de las “Tensiones e impactos del turismo sobre la cultura”. Con ello se espera cubrir un amplio espectro de enfoques que den cuenta de los retos a los que se deben enfrentar los hacedores de políticas públicas, los gestores, la academia y los actores locales, en relación con la implementación de proyectos y acciones en diversos territorios con múltiples dinámicas sociales asociadas a estos procesos. This book forges a new approach to historical and geographical change by asking how gender arrangements and dynamics influence the evolution of institutions and environments. This new theoretical approach is applied via mixed methods and a multi-scale framework to bring together unusually diverse phenomena. Regional trends demonstrated with quantitative data include the massive incorporation of women into paid work, demographic masculinization of the countryside and feminization of cities, rapidly increasing gaps that favor women over men in education and life expectancy, and extraordinarily high levels of violence against men. Case studies in Mexico, Chile and Bolivia explore changes influenced by gender practices and expectations that involve men in different ways than women; they also highlight dissimilarities and power relations between differently positioned masculine groups. Ethnographic studies of culturally diverse arrangements, together with particular attention to subordinate versus dominant masculinities, complicate the gender binaries that circumscribe so much research and policy. Drawing attention to imbalances and conflicts generated by inappropriate models and uneven developments, the book points to opportunities for experimenting with and adapting the sociocultural institutions that govern relations among humans and between humans and their environment.
