This book provides an up-to-date overview of the Mössbauer effect in physics, chemistry, electrochemistry, catalysis, biology, medicine, geology, mineralogy, archaeology and materials science. Coverage details the most recent developments of the technique especially in the fields of nanoparticles, thin films, surfaces, interfaces, magnetism, experimentation, theory, medical and industrial applications and Mars exploration.
This volume contains papers presented at the 8th International Conference on Solid State Physics (SSP 2004), Workshop "Mössbauer Spectroscopy of Locally Heterogeneous Systems", held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, 23–26 August 2004. It should be of interest to researchers and PhD students working or interested in recent results in the locally inhomogeneous system investigations by Mössbauer Spectroscopy and the new concepts of data evaluation of complex Mössbauer spectra.
Disordered nature of structural arrangement in amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys gives rise to advantageous soft magnetic properties in particular from a practical application viewpoint [1]. Especially nanocrystalline alloys attract a lot of scienti?c interest because, contrary to their amorphous counterparts, their magnetic parameters do not substantially deteriorate at elevated temperatures during the process of their practical exploitation. To bene?t from their unique magnetic pr- erties, the mechanism of crystallization should be known. Here, we present the study of structural transformation of NANOPERM-type alloys by the help of Mössbauer spectrometry, conventional X-ray diffraction (XRD), and by an advanced diffraction of synchrotron radiation. 2 Experimental Alloys of the composition Fe Mo Cu B for x = 12, 15, 17, 20 prepared by 91?x 8 1 x 57 rapid quenching on a rotating wheel were analyzed in the as-cast state by Fe transmission Mössbauer spectrometry (TMS) and by conversion electron Mössbauer spectrometry (CEMS). The obtained as-quenched ribbons were about 10 mm wide and 20 ?m thick. The nanocrystalline state was achieved by annealing about 2 cm ? long samples for 1 h at temperatures up to 650 C in a vacuum. Conventional XRD was performed with Cu-K radiation in Bragg-Brentano con?guration with graphite ? monochromator in the diffracted beam. Monochromatic synchrotron radiation of 7keV(? = 0. 178 nm) provided at the KMC-2 beamline at BESSY Berlin was used for in situ examinations of structural transformations during continuous heat treatment.

The papers in this collection bring together a wide and diverse range of viewpoints to consider how the catastrophic consequences of deadly armed conflict can be addressed. Commentators are drawn from the United Nations and its agencies, key non- governmental organisations, world-class academic circles, senior members of government, leading human rights lawyers and judges with experience in international criminal law. These experts address deadly conflict in a comprehensive fashion covering all its stages: the causes and prevention of conflict; conflict resolution and peace-building; international criminal law and international humanitarian law and the role of the United Nations, humanitarian organisations and peacekeepers in post conflict situations. This collection is for those with an existing interest and expertise in international law, international relations, peace studies and criminal justice as well as for those who wish to become conversant with emerging developments in these fields.
This book presents a large-scale corpus-driven study of progressives in 'real' English and 'school' English, combining an analysis of general linguistic interest with a pedagogically motivated one. A systematic comparative analysis of more than 10,000 progressive forms taken from the largest existing corpora of spoken British English and from a small corpus of EFL textbook texts highlights numerous differences between actual language use and textbook language concerning the distribution of progressives, their preferred contexts, favoured functions, and typical lexical-grammatical patterns. On the basis of these differences, a number of pedagogical implications are derived, the integration of which then leads to a first draft of an innovative concept of teaching progressives - a concept which responds to three key criteria in pedagogical description: typicality, authenticity, and communicative utility. The analysis also demonstrates that many existing accounts of the progressive are inappropriate in several respects and that not enough attention is being paid to lexical-grammatical relations.! Winner of the "Wissenschaftspreis Hannover 2006" for outstanding research monographs !
This book deals with a new class of magnetic materials, spin ice. Spin ice has become the canonical example of modern frustrated magnetism where competing interactions between spins set the rules for an emergent magnetostatic gauge field theory. Excitations take the form of magnetic monopoles or can condense via a Higgs mechanism. Beyond classical spin ice, the book describes the new physics emerging when quantum coherence (spin liquids, photon-like excitations) and itinerant electrons (anomalous Hall effect) are included in artificial systems. This first book dedicated to spin ice is a review of the current understanding of the field, both on the theoretical and experimental levels, written by leading experts. The book is written in a linear way with very few prerequisites. It also contains textbook-like descriptions of theoretical methods to help advanced students and researchers to enter the field.
It is with great pleasure we introduce the proceeding of the 5th International Conference on Accounting, Management, and Economics (ICAME 2020) on The New Normal Economy. This conference has gathered researchers, academicians, and practitioners who are concerned with the topics, developing policy recommendations towards a better resilience amidst crises. The theme of the 5th International Conference on Accounting, Management, and Economics (ICAME 2020) was “The New Normal Economy: Risk-Based Decision Making in Economics, Management, and Accounting Perspectives”. The sudden and rapid emergence of the New Normal Era, particularly in business industry forces various elements in the society to challenge the conventional, and universities as the higher education institutions are no exception. It poses challenges to universities to produce graduates with ability to respond to changes, compete globally, create innovations, and quickly adapt to the vast technology advancements. With this in mind, the 5th ICAME has taken the theme The New Normal Economy: Risk-Based Decision Making in Economics, Management, and Accounting Perspectives. The conference invited speakers from academic and business practitioners who are experts in their fields to share their insights related to business and research orientation in facing the New Normal Era. The conference also invited researchers, academicians, and practitioners to participate in the Call for Papers to share their research results. The organizer hopes that the conference can stimulate various new research and discussions about New-Normal Economy that can help society and business to navigate and adapt in this pandemic era.
