The National Bureau of Standards appreciates the cooperation of the more than 200 organizations which have contributed to this issue their summaries of hydraulic and hydrologic research and of other fluid mechanics research of interest and usefulness to hydrauliciens. These reporting organizations are listed beginning on page vii. Although efforts are made to solicit reports from all laboratories whose work comes to our attention, the National Bureau of Standards cannot assume responsibility for the completeness of this publication. We must depend in the last analysis upon reporting laboratories for the completeness of the coverage of their Own programs, and upon new laboratories engaged in pertinent research to bring their activities to our attention.
