The author's story starts in a mining village, Cramlingham, in Northumberland in 1954. He grew up with his family: father, mother, two older brothers and a younger sister who all felt the effects of WW2; his father lost a leg in the war. His life continued in Cramlington until 1977 when he married and raised two children, making a good home and career for himself and his family.
