The Washington State Dept. of Transportation conducted a survey to determine public demand for four alternate transportation options that could be used during the six- to eight-week closure of the Hood Canal Bridge in 2006.
As a result of the February 13, 1979 sinking of the western half of the Hood Canal Bridge the Washington State Department of Transportation took steps to provide interim traffic service to and from the Olympic Peninsula and to develop plans for permanent replacement of the Bridge. The purpose of this report is to document the methodology of the studies undertaken and to provide a Preliminary recommendation concerning a replacement facility across Hood Canal for use by the Department and its consultants in determining the course of action to be pursued. --Executive Summary
