The Pittsburgh Female College records include documentation of many activities sponsored by or otherwise connected to the institution. These records include programs and tickets for musical performances and essay contests as well as a commencement program. Additional documents, such as the 1869-1870 annual college catalogue and an 1870 academic progress report for Emma Porterfield, reflect the educational mission of the institution. Finally, the inclusion of a written account of the graduation exercises of the Pennsylvania Female College, a related institution, supplements the Pittsburgh Female College records and allows the collection to more broadly reflect the nature of higher education for women in Pittsburgh in the second half of the nineteenth century.
