The report summarizes a study of entrance pressure measured in nine hydraulic models and two laboratory investigations of entrance designs for earth dam flood control outlet works. The experimental data are examined to determine the effects of upstream face geometry, guide piers, and bulkhead and gate slots. Both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional type inlets are considered and compared with idealized inlets. The results are presented graphically in terms of dimensionless pressure drop coefficients for use in estimating pressure conditions to be expected in design practice. Design criteria are recommended.
