The Blues Bag is both a songbook and an instruction book. It is, first of all, an anthology of blues songs, some of which are very well known; others have (as far as I know) never been in print before. As such, it can be used simply as a vehicle for learning new songs, and providing the words and guitar chords for songs you already know. In addition, it provides for the learning guitarist fills, introductions, and turnarounds for the songs, as well as complete instrumental breaks for the majority of the blues presented in this collection. These breaks are written out both in standard music notation and guitar tablature.
This comprehensive book has 260 pages and over 50 fingerpicking guitar solos in notation and tablature in country blues, Delta blues, ragtime blues, Texas blues and bottleneck styles. An extremely comprehensive blues solo collection.Includes access to online audio

He demonstrates essential techniques, such as reed bending, vibrato, rhythm grooves, cross harp playing and more. In the DVD, John teaches all the basics in this friendly, jam-along lesson: how to hold the instrument and find the blues notes, then add vibrato, note-bending, wah-wahs, tonguing, rhythm playing, train effects and a variety of great licks and solos that can be used either solo or in a band"--Hal Leonard website, viewed Nov. 17, 2014
This collection of traditional music from Ireland and Scotland arranged for solo guitar is the result of a passionate study of the tradition by some of the finest musicians playing in this genre. Compiled by Stefan Grossman, this book includes arrangements by Pierre Bensusan, El McMeen, Martin Simpson, Pat Kirtley, Duck Baker, Tom Long & Steve Baughman. Looking back less than a century you would find this music performed on fiddle, pipes, button accordion, flutes and whistles, in solo and ensemble settings, but never guitar, even in its basic role of providing rhythm. The challenge for those who attempt to translate Celtic traditional music for fingerstyle guitar is to preserve the unique qualities which are the essence of the style. The popularity of alternate tunings in this music tends to come from two different directions. One is in the desire for production of tonalities of droning instruments, ß la the bagpipes, and tunings such as DADGAD and EADEAE make this effect relatively easy. On the other hand, there are guitar tunings which lend themselves easily to the melodic steps and fullness found in the diatonic Celtic harp, such as DGDGBD (open G tuning) and the CGDGAD. DVD is region 0, playable worldwide.
The Early Masters of American Blues series provides the unique opportunity to study the true roots of modern blues. Stefan Grossman, noted roots-blues guitarist and musicologist, has compiled this fascinating collection of 26 songs legendary blues guitarist Mississippi John Hurt. In addition to Stefan's expert transcriptions, the book includes online audio containing the John Hurt's original recordings so you can hear the music as it was originally performed. Mississippi John Hurt had a fascinating career, originally recording a handful of songs in the late 1920s, and, after disappearing for nearly 30 years, being rediscovered by a new generation of musicians that included Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Stephen Sills. Found in 1963 living in a small town in Mississippi, by an admirer who tracked him down through the lyrics of his 1928 single Avalon Blues," Mississippi John Hurt was persuaded to go to Washington, D.C. and start a new career. He spent the next three years performing and recording for a whole new group of fans. In addition to transcribing all the songs in this collection, Stefan Grossman was also a student of John Hurt."
