Excerpt from Hamilton's Arithmetics Second Book This book is intended to cover the work of the fifth and sixth years. It is based on, and closely follows, the Course of Study issued by the Department of Public Instruction of the State of New Jersey. It is divided into four parts, corresponding to the four half-year periods in the fifth and sixth years. The first half of the fifth grade is devoted chiefly to the treatment of common fractions. The second half of the flfih grade takes up the simpler processes in decimals. The first laa of the sixth grade completes decimals and begins percentage. The second half of the sixth grade continues percentage, with its simpler applications, and gives an easy treatment of interest. In addition, each grade provides for a thorough review of all that has preceded it. Much practice is also given in denominate numbers and in mensuration, in scale drawing, and in practical problems relating to the common affairs of life, such as marketing, traveling, furnishing a house, keep ing simple accounts, etc. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
