The Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) was established in 1975 to address the problems of marine pollution in the region, and the following year, the Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution (the Barcelona Convention) was adopted, under the auspices of UNEP. This publication sets out regional guidelines for the identification and application of best available techniques (BATs), best environmental practices (BEPs) and cleaner technologies (CTs) in industries in the MAP countries, which cover: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, Morocco, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
