Originally published in 1997, The Pianist's Bookshelf, was, according to the Library Journal, "a unique and valuable tool." Now rewritten for a modern audience, this second edition expands into the 21st century. A completely revised update, The Pianist's Bookshelf, Second Edition, comes to the rescue of pianists overwhelmed by the abundance of books, videos, and other works about the piano. In this clear, easy-to-use reference book, Maurice Hinson and Wesley Roberts survey hundreds of sources and provide concise, practical annotations for each item, thus saving the reader hours of precious research time. In addition to the main listings of entries, such as "Chamber Music" and "Piano Duet," the book has indexes of authors, composers, and performers. A handy reference from the masters of piano bibliography, The Pianist's Bookshelf, Second Edition, will be an invaluable resource to students, teachers, and musicians.

The bass trombone’s range is very similar to the tuba. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of solo repertoire composed for the bass trombone. Due to its relatively new development, many composers do not know how to properly write for the instrument. The most common error is composers writing too high for the instrument. Though the bass trombone has the capability of playing the soaring high notes of a tenor trombone, it is much more fatiguing than on a tenor trombone. The range of the tuba suites the bass trombone, as it requires performing mostly in the mid to low register, while occasionally reaching the high register. The aim of this document is to provide a catalog of tuba repertoire that is realistic for bass trombonists. The document is structured in nine major chapters: (1) Introduction, discusses the process of constructing this document, (2) History of the Double-Valve Bass Trombone, (3) Unaccompanied Solos, (4) Solos with Keyboard, (5) Solos with Band or Orchestra, (6) Solos with Electronic Media, (7) Etudes and Method Books, (8) Duets, and (9) Further Research.

The solo repertoire of the tuba and euphonium has grown exponentially since the middle of the 20th century, due in large part to the pioneering work of several artist-performers on those instruments. These performers sought out and collaborated directly with composers, helping to produce works that sensibly and musically used the tuba and euphonium. However, not every composer who wishes to write for the tuba and euphonium has access to world-class tubists and euphonists, and the body of available literature concerning the capabilities of the tuba family is both small in number and lacking in comprehensiveness. This document seeks to remedy this situation by producing a comprehensive and accessible guide on the capabilities of the tuba family. An analysis of the currently-available materials concerning the tuba family will give direction on the structure and content of this new guide, as will the dissemination of a survey to the North American composition community. The end result, the Composer's Guide to the Tuba, is a practical, accessible, and composer-centric guide to the modern capabilities of the tuba family of instruments.
