This book presents a game changing technology of lower energy-intensive urea production of urea which is used as fertilizer. The technology, from a resource to a knowledge-intensive based industry, investigates a new synthesis approach employing electromagnetic induction and nano-catalyst at lower energy consumption. This clean and green method for a sustainable future might change the landscape of future chemical processes. It is made possible due to the enhancement in nanotechnology where quantum mechanical understanding is called into play. New reactor designs are elaborated on and discussed explicitly. Hematite and nickel oxide nanocatalysts are proposed for the green urea synthesis process, in the presence of static and oscillating magnetic fields. Strategies to increase single to triplet conversion rate are given for better understanding of the improved urea rate. The focus is deliberately on scrutinizing the greenhouse gas effect on the urea yield, in this case CO2 flow rate. Coating techniques for slow release strategies are provided to reduce the volatilization of ammonia and leaching effect, hence offering a complete solution of Green Technology. Agriculture 4.0 that creates the new patterns and precision monitoring of crop rotation and livestock utilization will be able to pave the way for better crop yield. Development of advanced technology in agriculture is important for the implementation of Agriculture 4.0 and currently an inevitable trend of the socioeconomic development in the context of broader international integration for the sustainable future. The author would like to acknowledge Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) for the grant worth RM 12 million to accomplish Green and Economical Urea project and to have full understanding on Green Technology in Urea. Rice based cropping system is the major cropping system practised in India which includes the rotation of crops involving rice, pulses, oil seeds, cotton, sugar cane, green manures etc., The rice based cropping system offers lot of scope for the effective utilization of a wide range of biofertilizers such as Azolla, BGA, Azospirillum, Rhizobium Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus and other heterotrophic N2 fixing bacteria which help to increase the yield by reducing the cost of cultivation. It thus has dual advantages of being sustainable without endangering the environment and being highly cost effective. This book ‘Biofertilizer Technology for Rice Based Cropping System’ deals with the current developments in the basic and applied aspects of biofertilizers used in the rice based cropping including the novel endophytic diazotrophs viz., Azorhizobium caulinodans, Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, Pink Pigmented Facultative Methylotrophs (PPFM) etc. The role of P, Zn and Si solubilizers in the nutrient dynamics of the rice ecosystem has also been covered. The strategies for production and distribution of quality inoculants for rice based cropping system has been given due importance with a focus on the molecular approaches for rapid and reliable quality control of biofertilizers. This book can be considered as a monograph on the usage of biofertilizers in rice based cropping system. It will be very useful for the scientists, researchers, students and extension workers involved in the management of crops in rice based cropping system .
Production from tropical agricultural systems will need to increase to satisfy the rising food demand of an increasing population coupled with changes in consumption patterns. At the same time, the agricultural sector is a significant source of greenhouse gases (GHG) in many developing countries, which can be attributed mainly to land-use change and methane emissions from rice and livestock. But how can we reconcile less GHG emissions from tropical agricultural systems while increasing productivity? Due to the interactive nature of these issues, this book is compiled of articles on natural resource management, as well as the socio-economic aspects of GHG mitigation. The scope of mitigation options in tropical agriculture is discussed for three different activities: (a) agroforestry; (b) rice-based production systems; (c) pasture/animal husbandry. Agronomic solutions alone will not be sufficient, as the institutional and economic frameworks within which farmers operate dictate whether a recommended agronomic management practice is acceptable. The prevention of deforestation, and the re-forestation of degraded land, could become key elements to national climate protection programs of some developing countries. Alternative management practices in rice-based and pasture systems may offer win-win options to reduce emissions and improve resource-use efficiencies.
