El gobierno de las Tecnologías de Información —TI— integra y apoya la institucionalización de buenas prácticas de planificación y organización, adquisición e implementación, entrega de servicios y soporte, y monitoreo del rendimiento de TI, para asegurar que la información administrada y las tecnologías empleadas soporten los objetivos estratégicos organizacionales. Para tener un sistema de gobierno TI óptimo y una planificación estratégica de las tecnologías de la información es primordial entender que las principales responsabilidades deben estar apoyadas por la alta gerencia de las universidades, como lo son rectores y vicerrectores. Además, para que el gobierno de las TI sea efectivo es de gran relevancia la determinación del personal capacitado para la gestión de las TI, un mayor manejo en la gestión de los riesgos para lograr un mayor rendimiento de la universidad, la realización de evaluaciones y seguimientos frecuentes de los procesos e implantar estándares internacionales y certificaciones de las TI. Se deben considerar pertinentes las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación en las organizaciones modernas al igual que en las Instituciones de Educación Superior, entendiendo que han pasado de ser un instrumento operativo para convertirse en una herramienta estratégica. En la actualidad las Tecnologías de la Información se han convertido en una parte fundamental de toda organización, por ello la gestión de las TI en las universidades se ha enfocado en tener una administración eficiente de los recursos tecnológicos. Sin embargo, no convendría concebir las TI sólo como elementos tácticos de las universidades, y no deberían gestionarse verticalmente o planificarse de manera aislada, sino que tendrían que formar parte de la planificación global de la universidad, pues tienen un carácter estratégico y horizontal. Sólo de esta manera se alcanzará la máxima eficiencia y se podrá extraer de las TI el máximo valor posible para la universidad.

The Spanish Conference of Industrial Engineering /Ingeniería de Organización Industrial (CIO) is an annual meeting promoted by Asociación para el Desarrollo de la Ingeniería de Organización/ Industrial Engineers Association (ADINGOR).
