The documents in this book cover the actions during the period 1939-1941 that resulted in the sinking or immobilising of the German Warships Birsmark and Graf Spee, and record the struggle to rid the seas of the menace of the armed merchants raiders.

Scharnhorst and Gneisenau

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1995, Daniel Knowles has been interested in history from a young age. The main focus of his historical interest is the Second World War. In July 2016, he graduated with an Honours degree in History and Politics from the University of Northumbria. His university dissertation was written on the changing perceptions to the wartime role played by RAF Bomber Command.

This volume describes the dangerous convoy operations in the Mediterranean which were necessary to relieve the garrison and people of Malta, covering the period from the beginning of 1941 until the end of 1942.
