Excerpt from General Indexes to the Plants Contained in the First Fifty-Three Volumes (or Old Series Complete) Of the Botanical Magazine: To Which Are Added, a Few Interesting Memoirs of the Author, Mr. W. Curtis The two first will be of essential consequence to those who have had their sets bound up according to the order of publication; the latter will be useful to those, who may wish to bind their sets systematically; or who may wish to see an arranged catalogue of the Genera and Species contained in the Work. As many years may intervene, before it will be necessary to publish another General Index, we have added blank leaves at the end of this, for the couve nience of those who wish to continue a Manuscript Index; and although this Index is complete for the Old Series, consisting of the first Fifty-three Volumes of this Work, several years hence, it may be desirable to amalgamate the Old and New Series under one General Index; we have, therefore, provided for such a contingency, by carrying the numbers on in nume rical order beyond the Fifty-third Volume; and those who possess the whole of the Work will number their next Volume Fifty-four, disregarding the distinction of Old or New Series, which has been made princi pally to mark a new epoch in the arrangement under a new Editor, and to give many an opportunity of commencing the Work conveniently, who may not have the means of purchasing the former Series.
