Johann Philip Cruse was born 29 December 1722 in Wiesbaden, Germany. He was the son of Philip Adolph Cruse and Maria Catharina (surname unknown). Johann immigrated to America aboard the ship "Henrietta" and arrived at the Port of Philadelphia 22 October 1754. He married Anna Catharina (surname unknown) ca. 1759 in Red Hill, Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. They lived in Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina and were the parents of five sons and five daughters. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, California and elsewhere.
George Hull (1590-1659) and his family emigrated in 1630 from England to Dorchester, Massachusetts, moving in 1636 to Windsor, Connecticut. Joseph Hull (1596-1665), his brother, emigrated in 1635 and died at York, Maine. Richard Hull (1599-1662), not a relative, immigrated before 1636 to Massachusetts, moving to New Haven, Connecticut in 1639. Descendants of these three immigrants lived mainly in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Tennessee and California.
The Great Apostasy Considered in the Light of Scriptural and Secular History is a 1909 book by James E. Talmage that summarizes the Great Apostasy, Mormon doctrine, from the viewpoint of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Talmage wrote his book with the intention that it be used as a teaching tool within the LDS Church's Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association and the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association. The book is "in many ways quite derivative" of B. H. Roberts's 1893 Outlines of Ecclesiastical History. Both writers borrowed heavily from the writings of Protestant scholars who argued that Roman Catholicism had apostatized from true Christianity. Talmage's book has been described as "the most recognizable and noted work on the topic" of Latter-day Saint views of the Great Apostasy.
John Holloway was born in 1686 and married Mary Pharo about 1706-1707. They immigrated to Chesterfield, Burlington Co., New Jersey and he died in 1717. Descendants and relatives lived in New Jersey, Virginia, California, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Oregon, Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina and elsewhere.
