George Ludwig (Lewis) Coffinberry or Kaufenbaerger was born at Stuttgart, Wurtemburg, Germany, early in the eighteenth century. He and his wife, Katyrina Kimmell, immigrated to America and settled at Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1750. He died at age 108. His son, George Lewis Coffinberrry was born in 1760 in Berkeley County. He served in the Revolutionary War in the Carolinas. He married Elizabeth Klein Little in 1786 at Martinsburg. They had fourteen children, 1787-1811. The family migrated to Ross County, Ohio, moved to Lancaster, Ohio, then Chillicothe, Ohio, and finally to Mansfield, Ohio, ca. 1810. He died at Mansfield, Ohio, in 1851. Descendants listed lived in Ohio, Michigan, and elsewhere. Some descendants spell their name "Coffenberry."
