Excerpt from Descendants of Captain Joseph Miller of West Springfield, Mass., 1698-1908 Lieut. Thomas Miller lived there and was killed by the Indians at the burning of Springfield in 1675. He was a man of prominence in the community and at the time of the massacre held the ofice of Town Constable; many interesting stories are told of him and his wife concerning the part they took during the witchcraft craze. He evidently did not appreciate the honor of the office to which he was elected at one tim$ - that of Fence Viewer - as he was fined two shilling for not properly fulfilling the duties of this office.
