Grid computing systems utilize the heterogeneous networked resources, such as computation, information, database, storage, bandwidth, etc., through the Internet. The systems can operate in predefined and organized ways or form the collected resource systems through self-organizing and decentralized ways. Even with the various types of abundant resources in the Internet, the resources that can be organized and operated in the presence of multiple resource owners with the uncertainty of resource availability and quality are scarce.This volume contains refereed and invited papers presented at the 3rd International Workshop on Grid Economics and Business Models held on 16 May 2006 at the Singapore Management University, in conjunction with GridAsia 2006. It includes contributions by researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines that discuss the economy of the systems concerned, with focus on the operational and deployment issues of Grid Economy.

This volume contains the proceedings of the First International ICST Conference on Digital Business (DigiBiz 2009), hosted by City University London in London, UK. This annual event had the main objective to stimulate and disseminate research results and experimentation on future Digital Business to a wider multidisciplinary forum that would allow the participants to cross the boundaries between research and business. The scientific offering in e-business, e-commerce, and ICT in general is quite broad and spans many different research themes, involving several communities and me- odologies. This book develops allocation mechanisms that aim to ensure an efficient resource allocation in modern IT-services. Recent methods of artificial intelligence, such as neural networks and reinforcement learning, and nature-oriented optimization methods, such as genetic algorithms and simulated annealing, are advanced and applied to allocation processes in distributed IT-infrastructures, or grid systems.

GECON - Grid Economics and Business Models Cloud computing is seen by many people as the natural evolution of Grid computing concepts. Both, for instance, rely on the use of service-based approaches for pro- sioning compute and data resources. The importance of understanding business m- els and the economics of distributed computing systems and services has generally remained unchanged in the move to Cloud computing. This understanding is nec- sary in order to build sustainable e-infrastructure and businesses around this paradigm of sharing Cloud services. Currently, only a handful of companies have created s- cessful businesses around Cloud services. Among these, Amazon and Salesforce (with their offerings of Elastic Compute Cloud and force. com among other offerings) are the most prominent. Both companies understand how to charge for their services and how to enable commercial transactions on them. However, whether a wide-spread adoption of Cloud services will occur has to seen. One key enabler remains the ability to support suitable business models and charging schemes that appeal to users o- sourcing (part of) their internal business functions. The topics that have been addressed by the authors of accepted papers reflect the above-described situation and the need for a better understanding of Grid economics. The topics range from market mechanisms for trading computing resources, capacity planning, tools for modeling economic aspects of service-oriented systems, archit- tures for handling service level agreements, to models for economically efficient resource allocation.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on the Internet of Vehicles, IOV 2018, which took place in Paris, France, in November 2018. Distributed computing paradigms for sharing resources such as Clouds, Grids, Peer-to-Peer systems, or voluntary computing are becoming increasingly popular. While there are some success stories such as PlanetLab, OneLab, BOINC, BitTorrent, and SETI@home, a widespread use of these technologies for business applications has not yet been achieved. In a business environment, mechanisms are needed to provide incentives to potential users for participating in such networks. These mechanisms may range from simple non-monetary access rights, monetary payments to specific policies for sharing. Although a few models for a framework have been discussed (in the general area of a "Grid Economy"), none of these models has yet been realised in practice. This book attempts to fill this gap by discussing the reasons for such limited take-up and exploring incentive mechanisms for resource sharing in distributed systems. The purpose of this book is to identify research challenges in successfully using and deploying resource sharing strategies in open-source and commercial distributed systems.
