The Joint Legislative Auditing Committee directed the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability to review the Preservation 2000 Program. The purpose of the review is to assess whether the public lands acquired through the Preservation 2000 Program meet the goals and criteria prescribed by the Legislature; determine whether information exists to assess the Program's impact on achieving overall state conservation and recreation goals; determine whether land acquisition agencies are using strategies to maximize the use of Preservation 2000 resources; and determine whether land management agencies have assessed the potential costs of managing the land acquired with Preservation 2000 funds.
