The production and the properties of nuclei in extreme conditions, such as high isospin, temperature, angular momenta, large deformations etc., have become the subject of detailed investigations in all scientific centers. The symposium was held at Kazan, Russia from 4 - 10 September 2016. EXON-2016 was dedicated to the problems of producing and investigating nuclei far from the line of stability.The main goal of the symposium was to discuss the latest results on the production and study of the properties of the lightest to the heaviest nuclei, as well as the plans for future joint investigations in the field of exotic nuclei. The talks were presented by leading scientists in the field. Among the topics of the symposium were the following: production and study of properties of nuclei in extreme states, strongly deformed nuclei, highly excited and nuclei far from the line of stability as well as nuclei having large angular momenta. New results of the investigations are presented in this book. In particular, the latest results on the synthesis of new superheavy elements are also presented. There were also talks devoted to existing detecting devices and accelerators of exotic nuclei as well as to the future projects for the creation of similar set-ups.
This is the proceedings of the Ninth International Symposium on Exotic Nuclei EXON-2018, 10-15 September, Petrozavodsk, Russia. The first symposium took place 27 years ago in 1991 in Foros (Crimea), the later symposiums were held on Baikal Lake, in Peterhof, Khanty-Mansiysk, Sochi, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and Kazan. The organizers of the Symposium were the five largest scientific centers of heavy-ion physics — JINR (Dubna), the RIKEN Research Center (Japan), the GANIL National Center (France), the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (Germany), the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (Michigan, USA). The main topics are: properties of light exotic nuclei, synthesis and properties of superheavy elements, rare processes and decays, experimental facilities and future projects.

This book is a collection of talks presented at the First International African Symposium on Exotic Nuclei (IASEN-2013). The symposium was held at Cape Town, South Africa from 2 - 6 December 2013. Nuclear physics is an exciting, broadly faceted field. It spans a wide range of topics, reaching from nuclear structure physics to high-energy physics, astrophysics and medical physics (heavy ion tumor therapy). New developments are presented in this volume and the status of research is reviewed. A major focus is put on nuclear structure physics, dealing with superheavy elements and with various forms of exotic nuclei: strange nuclei, very neutron rich nuclei, nuclei of antimatter. Also quantum electrodynamics of strong fields is addressed, which is linked to the occurrence of giant nuclear systems in, e.g., U+U collisions. At high energies nuclear physics joins with elementary particle physics. Various chapters address the theory of elementary matter at high densities and temperature, in particular the quark gluon plasma which is predicted by quantum chromodynamics (QCD) to occur in high-energy heavy ion collisions. In the field of nuclear astrophysics, the properties of neutron stars and quark stars are discussed. A topic which transcends nuclear physics is discussed in two chapters: The proposed pseudo-complex extension of Einstein's General Relativity leads to the prediction that there are no black holes and that big bang cosmology has to be revised. Finally, the interdisciplinary nature of this volume is further accentuated by chapters on protein folding and on magnetoreception in birds and many other animals.
The book provides an introduction to both theoretical and experimental results on chirality and wobbling in atomic nuclei. It details the achievements in the study of chirality over the past 25 years since the first prediction of this mode of collective motion in nuclei, as well as those on the wobbling motion. It offers a detailed review of the most relevant theoretical developments on both types of collective motion and the experimental results supporting or not the theoretical predictions. Different views on wobbling are included and confronted with the contradicting experimental results on low-spin wobbling. It is intended to foster further the research on these types of exotic collective motion in nuclei. Which and how these exotic collective motions occur in nuclei, which are their predicted fingerprints and how they are supported by the experimental facts will be presented. Polemics, debates, and ambiguities of the interpretation of the experimental results will be exposed. The reader will have the opportunity to have together different views on the two phenomena which animated the scientific activity in low-energy nuclear physics in many laboratories around the world.
