This is the proceedings of the Ninth International Symposium on Exotic Nuclei EXON-2018, 10-15 September, Petrozavodsk, Russia. The first symposium took place 27 years ago in 1991 in Foros (Crimea), the later symposiums were held on Baikal Lake, in Peterhof, Khanty-Mansiysk, Sochi, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and Kazan. The organizers of the Symposium were the five largest scientific centers of heavy-ion physics — JINR (Dubna), the RIKEN Research Center (Japan), the GANIL National Center (France), the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (Germany), the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (Michigan, USA). The main topics are: properties of light exotic nuclei, synthesis and properties of superheavy elements, rare processes and decays, experimental facilities and future projects.

The symposium was held at Kazan, Russia from 4 - 10 September 2016. EXON-2016 was dedicated to the problems of producing and investigating nuclei far from the line of stability.The main goal of the symposium was to discuss the latest results on the production and study of the properties of the lightest to the heaviest nuclei, as well as the plans for future joint investigations in the field of exotic nuclei. The talks were presented by leading scientists in the field. Among the topics of the symposium were the following: production and study of properties of nuclei in extreme states, strongly deformed nuclei, highly excited and nuclei far from the line of stability as well as nuclei having large angular momenta. New results of the investigations are presented in this book. In particular, the latest results on the synthesis of new superheavy elements are also presented. There were also talks devoted to existing detecting devices and accelerators of exotic nuclei as well as to the future projects for the creation of similar set-ups.

This book is a collection of talks presented at the First International African Symposium on Exotic Nuclei (IASEN-2013). The symposium was held at Cape Town, South Africa from 2 - 6 December 2013. The IASEN2013 was dedicated to the problems of producing and investigating nuclei far from the line of stability. These proceedings are the fifth in the series of International Conferences covering fission and properties of neutron-rich nuclei, which are at the forefront of nuclear research. The time interval of 5 years between each conference allows for significant new results to be achieved. Recently, world leaders in theory and experiments in research and the development of new facilities for research presented their latest results in areas such as synthesis of superheavy elements, new facilities for and recent results with radioactive ion beams, structure of neutron-rich nuclei, nuclear fission process, fission yields and nuclear astrophysics. The book provides an introduction to both theoretical and experimental results on chirality and wobbling in atomic nuclei. It details the achievements in the study of chirality over the past 25 years since the first prediction of this mode of collective motion in nuclei, as well as those on the wobbling motion. It offers a detailed review of the most relevant theoretical developments on both types of collective motion and the experimental results supporting or not the theoretical predictions. Different views on wobbling are included and confronted with the contradicting experimental results on low-spin wobbling. It is intended to foster further the research on these types of exotic collective motion in nuclei. Which and how these exotic collective motions occur in nuclei, which are their predicted fingerprints and how they are supported by the experimental facts will be presented. Polemics, debates, and ambiguities of the interpretation of the experimental results will be exposed.
