This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of several widely used dust suppressants through quantitative field testing on two of Iowa's most widely used secondary road surface treatments: crushed limestone rock and alluvial sand/gravel. These commercially available dust suppressants included: lignin sulfonate, calcium chloride, and soybean oil soapstock. These suppressants were applied to 1000 ft test sections on four unpaved roads in Story County, Iowa.
Consolidates information developed by industry and government laboratories on dust control engineering techniques. Designed for the minerals processing industry, the technology applies to other industries as well. Dust, its prevention, formation and control are examined, including wet and dry control systems, personal protection, and testing methods.
In 1974, technical personnel from the Department of the Interior's Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration visited the United Kingdom to discuss and observe procedures used to assess and control respirable dust generated during underground coal mining operatons. This report discusses the dust control practices and trends in research that have potential application in the United States.
