Forty-one commercially available laser-protection eyewear, ten representative frames, and nine Air Force-developed protectors were evaluated under nonstress and stress conditions. Optical density, luminous transmittance, refractive and prismatic effects, haze, metrology, and optical quality were measured and when applicable, compared to ANSI standards. In addition, all materials were subjected to shelf-life, environmental effects, and laser-induced damage tests to determine damage limits and characteristics. The testing methodology, experimental apparatus, structural and spectral changes in the materials, and observations on type and cause of damage are presented. (Author).
