Excerpt from English Syntax and Analysis Simplified This book appears before the public, in answer to many calls. For years my pupils, and, also, teachers whom I have never known personally, have urged me to embody my teaching in book form, so that they could put into the hands of their own pupils, a text-book, attractive, easy of comprehension, and at the same time scholarly. Cheerfully, but not without labor, the task has been performed, and the book is now sent forth on its mission, without a misgiving of its success, wherever it may happen to find a welcome. Syntax and Analysis are treated together, as they are so closely related, it is difficult to treat them separately. In simplifying these difficult subjects, no element has been omitted, but into the work have entered deep thought, and the result of the careful and extended research of years. A very long experience in teaching modern languages, has enabled me to understand the difficulties to be met with at every step, when undertaking the study of, even the mother-tongue, and from this experience has resulted the plan of this work. Step by step the pupil is led from the simple to the abstruse. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
