"As my wedding was rapidly approaching, I discovered I had no idea how to write meaningful marriage vows. I wanted vows that would reflect my personal journey to partnering with my beloved – and nothing seemed to fit. Traditional vows fell flat. Suggested alternatives sounded beautiful but felt inauthentic. Then, just days before the ceremony, I received three vows in a dream that changed everything." In her unique conversational style, Sheryll Reichwein shares how The First Vow – "To Love Yourself Fully" can transform your romantic relationship - and your life..Through anecdotes from her personal story as well as evidence-based content and how-to suggestions, Sheryll walks you through the process of deepening your relationship with yourself. Says Sheryll, "The First Vow - That's the vow I still struggle to live up to because learning to Love Yourself is not a one and done lesson. Learning to Love Yourself is all about your ongoing relationship to yourself – and to your partner – and to Love itself." Sheryll Reichwein, M.A., has devoted her career to helping others learn how to grow their personal and professional success and well-being. The awakened life is the essence and aim of the Buddhist teachings, according to Anam Thubten, and this book is a guide to cultivating the awakened mind and heart that allows this wonderful kind of life to happen. He illuminates the path to awakened living in a way that’s concise and completely accessible to anyone of any background—reflective of the diverse backgrounds of the students who attend his popular talks on which the book is based. "We all want to be happy," says Anam Thubten. "This seems to be our strongest impulse. Primarily our happiness comes from our state of mind, though we can’t deny the fact that outside circumstances play a big role. When we learn to embrace each moment of our lives, we’re empowered to let go of our emotional patterns and false beliefs about ourselves, and we discover the compassion that’s been there all along."
Arguments in favour of divine impassibility take many forms, one of which is moral. This argument views emotional risk, vulnerability, suffering, and self-love as obstacles to moral perfection. In Embracing Vulnerability: Human and Divine, the author challenges these mistaken assumptions about moral judgment. Through an analysis of Hebrew thought and modern philosophical accounts of love, justice, and emotion, Roberto Sirvent reveals a fundamental incompatibility between divine impassibility and the Imitation of God ethic (imitatio Dei). This book shows that a God who is not emotionally vulnerable is a God unworthy of our imitation. But in what sense can we call divine impassibility immoral? To be sure, God's moral nature teaches humanswhat it means to live virtuously. But can human understandings of morality teach us something about God's moral character? If true, how should we go about judging God's moral character? Isn't it presumptuous to do so? After all, if we are going to challenge divine impassibility on moral grounds, what reason do we have to assume that God is bound by our standards of morality? Embracing Vulnerability: Human and Divine addresses these questions and many others. In the process, Sirvent argues for the importance of thinking morally about theology, inviting scholars in the fields of philosophical theology and Christian ethics to place their theological commitments under close moral scrutiny, and to consider how these commitments reflect and shape our understanding of the good life.
