Snapping hiphop, rap, soul, rnb, blues, jazz artists on Polaroid, is not as easy as you might think.0I am not a journalist, a professional photographer nor am I a groupie. The thing is, Polaroid does not like movement, so the artists have to pose and that is the tricky part. This book explains how I succeed or fail in my ultimate hunt for that one polaroid while facing hardcore fans, managements, bodyguards, heavy security and protective entourage."00In 2009 Elisabeth Ouni, who is passionate about urban music, hiphop, rap and the mindset that comes along with it, decided to follow her dream: to make a Polaroid portrait of all the big and emerging stars of this scene. Ouni lives in Ostend and has Tunisian roots. She embraces her passion fearlessly and starts a quest that brings her places. Fans of Kendric Lamar, Jamie Woon, Jay-Z, D'Angelo, Pusha T, Pharell Williams, The Roots and so on, can only dream about, being in the same room as the artist, for a Polaroid picture and an exclusive conversation.0Her first feature was Pharrell Williams, straight to the core of where it all started: the American hiphop scene. Ten years and an international renowned blog and website later it is time for a book and travelling exhibition in Berlin, Paris and New York.
This book highlights novel research in Knowledge Discovery and Management (KDM), gathering the extended, peer-reviewed versions of outstanding papers presented at the annual conferences EGC’2017 & EGC’2018. The EGC conference cycle was founded by the International French-speaking EGC society (“Extraction et Gestion des Connaissances”) in 2003, and has since become a respected fixture among the French-speaking community. In addition to the annual conference, the society organizes various other events in order to promote exchanges between researchers and companies concerned with KDM and its applications to business, administration, industry and public organizations. Addressing novel research in data science, semantic Web, clustering, and classification, the content presented here will chiefly benefit researchers interested in these fields, including Ph.D./M.Sc. students, at public and private laboratories alike.
This two-volume book presents an unusually diverse selection of research papers, covering all major topics in the fields of information and communication technologies and related sciences. It provides a wide-angle snapshot of current themes in information and power engineering, pursuing a cross-disciplinary approach to do so. The book gathers revised contributions that were presented at the 2018 International Conference: Sciences of Electronics, Technologies of Information and Telecommunication (SETIT'18), held on 20–22 December 2018 in Hammamet, Tunisia. This eighth installment of the event attracted a wealth of submissions, and the papers presented here were selected by a committee of experts and underwent additional, painstaking revision. Topics covered include: · Information Processing · Human-Machine Interaction · Computer Science · Telecommunications and Networks · Signal Processing · Electronics · Image and Video This broad-scoped approach is becoming increasingly popular in scientific publishing. Its aim is to encourage scholars and professionals to overcome disciplinary barriers, as demanded by current trends in the industry and in the consumer market, which are rapidly leading toward a convergence of data-driven applications, computation, telecommunication, and energy awareness. Given its coverage, the book will benefit graduate students, researchers and practitioners who need to keep up with the latest technological advances.
Preventing humanitarian atrocities is becoming as important for the United Nations as dealing with inter-state war. In this book, Ramesh Thakur examines the transformation in UN operations, analysing its changing role and structure. He asks why, when and how force may be used and argues that the growing gulf between legality and legitimacy is evidence of an eroded sense of international community. He considers the tension between the US, with its capacity to use force and project power, and the UN, as the centre of the international law enforcement system. He asserts the central importance of the rule of law and of a rules-based order focused on the UN as the foundation of a civilised system of international relations. This book will be of interest to students of the UN and international organisations in politics, law and international relations departments, as well as policymakers in the UN and other NGOs.
Spatial and identity research operates with differentiations and relations. These are particularly useful heuristic tools when examining border regions where social and geopolitical demarcations diverge. Applying this approach, the authors of this volume investigate spatial and identity constructions in cross-border contexts as they appear in everyday, institutional and media practices. The results are discussed with a keen eye for obliquely aligned spaces and identities and relinked to governmental issues of normalization and subjectivation. The studies base upon empirical surveys conducted in Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
