This book attempts to bridge the considerable gaps that exist between spiritual philosophies and evidence-based medicine and between the psychotherapeutic models of the East and the West. Based on the insights of both the ancient wisdom and modern medicine, this book presents Yogic science not just as a set of physical exercises or religious rituals but as theories about the mind that have bio-psycho-social implications in relation to health and illness. Drawing on his years of monastic training and his extensive experiential, clinical and research knowledge on the utility of Yoga meditation in standardized and evidence-based medicine protocols, the author describes symptom-specific clinical applications of Yogic/meditative techniques using standardized protocols for the various psychiatric and psychosomatic conditions. In addition, he explains the value of these techniques in reducing stress and improving quality of life in healthy populations. Dr. Pradhan names the proposed integrative model of psychotherapy Yoga and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (Y-MBCT). Unlike other models, Y-MBCT uses Yoga in its entirety (all eight limbs, including meditation) rather than piecemeal. The standardized and evidence-based format of Yoga meditation described in this book will help all aspiring Yoga practitioners and will hopefully also provide the impetus for multicenter research studies on the value of this ancient wisdom.

The art of meditation is not a job to be performed as one does the duties of one’s profession in life, for all activities of life are in the form of a function of one’s individuality or personality which is to a large extent extraneous to one’s nature, due to which there is a fatigue after work and there are times when one gets fed up with work, altogether. But meditation is not such a function and it differs from activities with which man is usually familiar. If sometimes one is tired of meditation, we have only to conclude one has only engaged oneself in another kind of activity, calling it meditation, while really it was not so.

A beautiful colour, illustrated book of authentic Yoga Meditation techniques that encourage the practice of Yoga in its broadest sense – as a vehicle for calming the mind, enhancing awareness and contentment, and developing deep inner peace. Drawing mainly on the tradition of Kriya Yoga – the goal of which is to attune individual consciousness with the Divine, or Universal, Consciousness – yoga and meditation teacher Stephen Sturgess reveals in this book how to progress beyond the supple body to the vital, contented mind. After first explaining the deep value of Yoga Meditation, outlining the Eight Limbs of Yoga (as presented by ancient sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras text) and giving clear, comprehensive explanations of our internal energy system (including kundalini, chakras, nadis, the three bodies and the five sheaths), Stephen then goes on to present a wide range of yoga practices that can be used as a regular holistic health programme. If we were to view the body as a temple, the combination of asana, purification and pranayama practices first cleans the temple windows – building the physical body and mind – while the meditations then shine light into the inner sanctum – lighting up the Inner Self and enabling a deep sense of spirituality and peace. A section at the end is then devoted to helping readers develop their personal practice, including advice on living with increased awareness, how to make yoga meditation a daily reality and a range of specially designed morning and evening routines, from a 15-minute programme up to 1 hour 45. In summary, readers are guided on a practical and nurturing journey towards a sense of enhanced calm, joy, happiness, harmony and personal fulfilment in life, where they will experience their fullest potential for both creative thought and action.
Meditation made easy! If you have 15 minutes to spare, you have enough time to do something that’s spirit-enhancing, energy-boosting, and life-balancing: practice Raja Yoga. This accessible guide by a dynamic, world-renowned yogi explains how—leading you through the simple steps needed to begin a transformational meditation program. Unlike most forms of yoga, Raja Yoga focuses on the mind. It helps you bring together the scattered forces of your thoughts, allowing you to let go of negativity and fear in order to create inner peace and an enhanced sense of well-being. Once you begin to absorb the teachings in this book, you will begin to think on an elevated level. The result: a more positive attitude, less stress, increased self confidence, and an overall improved quality of life.
Yoga is "bridle," i.e. "control" or "management," the "instrumental" state of consciousness – the scope of perception and information processing. This is, in fact, the end of yoga as such. And the beginning of application of the consciousness in its new quality – developed and controlled by the self-conscious will. Achieving the status of power is just the technique of equipment configuration tools that we can use "for life" ... what for? Indeed, why do we need the sort of tricky thing – consciousness living in the body? And where is who in it – where is the person, how many of them, what are they? And where is the one who is the "control center," and how does "he" correlate with the personal "masks" –??? To what extent can be the range of perception expanded? And what would be the world perceived by us as a result of this expansion? And how this picture of the world would be consistent with the tenets which are imposed to our understanding by the religious doctrine dominant in the time and place of our present existence? And other doctrines – what is with them? And what would an atheist think, who has expanded his range of perception about the perceived things? And a politician? Or a military man? And if – at all a scientist?!!! Let everybody answer these questions on their own. Yoga ... sorry, control ... has nothing to do with it. Adjustment of the scope of perception and information processing... Instrumental state of the instrumental sphere – no more... Everything else is the eternal questions. Whether you have no background in meditation or yoga or have been practicing for years, Mindfulness Yoga is for you. This groundbreaking book introduces an entirely new form of yoga, Mindfulness Yoga, which seamlessly integrates the Buddha's teachings on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness with traditional asana yoga practice. Mindfulness Yoga emphasizes the spiritual side of yoga practice, an aspect often overlooked in a culture that tends to fixate solely on the physical benefits of yoga. Unlike any other Buddhism-meets-yoga book, Mindfulness Yoga presents the two disciplines as a single practice that brings health to the body and liberates the mind and spirit, awakening compassion and fostering equanimity and joy. Mindfulness Yoga will appeal to the many people who have an interest in yoga, Buddhism, and meditation, but who may not have been able to find a teacher who could bring these practices together in a meaningful, practical way. In the first part of the book, author Frank Jude Boccio offers a superb and lively introduction to the Buddha's teachings and locates them within the larger context of the Indian spiritual traditions. Then, in second half of the book, Boccio offers three complete Mindfulness Yoga sequences, including over 100 pictures, with detailed guidance for body, breath, and mind. Special lay-flat binding makes this book even more useful as a practice aid. Look below at the ever-increasing amount of reviews and endorsements that this book is gaining for figures in the yoga, Buddhism, meditation, and natural living communities.
