Correspondence from Bradford Ripley Alden to John Torrey, dated 1832-1834. A young officer just graduated from West Point, Alden writes from his postings in Florida asking Torrey to purchase and send him some medical books and a skeleton, as he has decided to "devote my leisure moments to the study of Medicine," and notifying him of boxes of botanical and mineralogical specimens he is sending to New York for Torrey. In a 1834 letter written from West Point, Alden laments the loss of another box of plants he shipped from Florida, and confesses he had been unhappy at that posting. A fourth letter, dated 1832, is from Bradford Alden's father Roger Alden.
