Leadership is a topic that is often researched. Most research surrounds the management's leadership and how it affects the environment and people around them in an academic institution or the instructional leadership of instructors and how it affects students. There is little to no research done on students' leadership styles and how these various leadership styles affect their academic performance. The importance of this study surrounds the need to understand students to better cater to them. By understanding students' leadership styles and their effects on academic performance, instructors can better cater to the needs of these students to prepare them for the rest of their educational journey. This study will be done by conducted by running an ANOVA test. Data would be collected through a questionnaire that is entirely voluntary for students to part-take in, and the target audience would be current residential undergraduate students from any course and program offered by the school of education within a faith-based institution and have completed ENGL 101 - Composition and Rhetoric. Bivariate regression analysis would then be used to establish the strength of the relationship between the leadership styles of students and their academic performance. The results of the study were that there was no statistical difference in academic performance among the transformational leadership style, the transactional leadership style, and the passive-avoidant leadership style among students. Future research should be done in the areas of multiple faith-based institutions with an increased population and testing across the areas of age, gender, and ethnicity.

The purpose of this qualitative case study research was to investigate the existing degree of relationship between leadership styles and student achievement for principals in small, rural, southeast districts in Arizona. Student achievement was measured by fifth grade AIMS Mathematic scores over a two year period. Leadership style of the principals was measured by the MLQ-5X survey completed by eight participants (principals) and 102 raters (teachers). Interviews were conducted with a subset of the principals to gather more information in relation to their leadership style. Each leadership attribute was examined in relation to the student achievement on AIMS mathematics test for quantitative data analysis. The qualitative data analysis was performed with a word and phrase frequency counter to identify specific themes across the leadership style. Based on the findings of this study it is recommended that principals use the MLQ survey each school year to modify or enhance their leadership style by focusing professional development on strengthening leadership styles to establish commonality within district leadership to enhance student achievement. To expand on the results of this study, future research is recommended to include student SES, compare school districts to identify trends in school test scores to determine if district leadership impacts building leadership that has an indirect impact on student achievement, and include stakeholders in the MLQ survey to gain feedback.

The study identified four specific objectives, namely, to assess the influence and contribution of integrity, inspiration, competencies on students’ academic performance and to specify criteria for appointment of head of schools. The study employed an explanatory and cross-sectional design in collecting quantitative data using questionnaires administered on selected school teachers and secondary data was collected from a review of pertinent documents and from the internet. The findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between the leadership attributes of heads of school and students’ academic performance. Hence, the study concluded that the integrity, competency and inspirational outlooks of heads of schools influence students’ academic performances.

This study intends to analyzes the various types of leadership styles (transactional, transformational, and passive-avoidant) used while collaboratively working in teams to generate a business plan for a course project assignment. The influence of leadership styles are believed to influence the dynamics of the teaming environment as students work together on a classroom project assignment.
