Catawba County was established in 1842 from Lincoln County, North Carolina. Since then, many marriage records have accumulated. This book contains fully abstracted information and is geared toward researchers having ancestors whose marriage took place in Catawba County in the years 1850 through 1880. The groom's section contains the groom's name, age, parent's names (when listed), marriage date, officiator's name, and location of the event. A separate bride's cross index follows, which refers the reader to the alphabetized groom's list. The book also includes entries of out-of county residents marrying here and African-American marriages. This is the first marriage book for Catawba County, North Carolina, and the author does a tremendous job of indexing, alphabetizing, and placing in chronological order, the marriages of the county.
