The principal objectives of LEDO are to provide new or improved technology to predict long-term (including cumulative) environmental impacts of dredging operations and to address methods of minimizing any adverse impacts. The technology will allow the CE to accomplish its dredging and regulatory missions in a manner that is environmentally sound.
This issue is largely devoted to: Planning for Secs. 148 and 150 of PL 94-587. These sections cover disposal area management techniques and wetland habitat development. Work units and some reports included under these topics are cited.
Many parameters must be considered in evaluating the environmental impact of confined land disposal of dredged material and predicting the chemical changes that may occur during retention of the slurry in the disposal area. This article describes some of the factors studied under the Dredged Material Research Program (DMRP) Work Unit 2D01.
This issue consists largely of a status summary of DMRP work units. It also includes a short article entitled: Conventional Densification techniques to Increase Disposal Area Storage Capacity.
Partial contents: Design Requirements for an Information Dissemination and Technology Transfer for the DMRP; U.S.-Japanese Meeting on Dredged Material Disposal; Heavy Metal Uptake by Selected Marsh Plant Species; and New Literature.
