A thrilling, dark and sensual story of war and revenge set in 6th Century Celtic Scotland. Driven mad at the Battle of Arderydd when his lord died and his dreams were destroyed, Lailoken, the last of the great dragon harpers, arises from pain and madness to seek redemption and revenge. A culmination of myth and legend blending history and fantasy of the war plagued years that led to the rise of Northumbria and a simple man of poetic heart and warrior soul.
Red Knight and Dragon Skies finishes the story begun in Dragon Harper Curse and completes Book 2 of the Dragon Skies series. Book 1 of the Dragon Skies legends retold the early years of the life of Lailoken, Myrddin of the legends, and events that led to his madness when his lord and friend Gwenddolau was destroyed at the Battle of Arderydd. In Red Knight and Dragon Skies, Lailoken fulfills his dream to destroy Peredur and Gwrgi in retribution. Lailoken will join the delegation from Columcille, the historical St Columba of Iona, as he seeks to bring Christianity and peace to the Angles. But fate has a way of rearing its ugly head. Even as Columcille steps onto the path of peace, intrigues and schemes slither in the background. Using the Ionan delegation as subterfuge, Peredur sets into motion plans to crush the Angles and seek revenge against past allies and kinsmen. As the road winds uneasily toward war, new powers begin to rise in the land. Urien Rheged moves to solidify his control of the West. Rhyderrch seizes the lands to the old wall even as his dal Riadan ally, Aedan mac Gabran, tests his kingship of the isles. But none of the Western kings grasp the strength of the Angle kings and their belief in the prophecy that they will rule the land from sea to sea. Legend and history twist together in this dark sensual adventure of a man seeking love in a land filled with struggle.

Understanding (Post)feminist Girlhood Through Young Adult Fantasy Literature takes advantage of growing critical interest in popular young adult texts and their influence on young people. The monograph offers an innovative approach by pairing traditional literary analysis with the responses of readers to show the complex ways that young people respond to the depiction of female protagonists. In the first section, the book utilises a feminist framework to examine young adult fantasy novels published from 2012 to 2018, with a particular focus on A Court of Thorns and Roses (Maas, 2015) and Red Queen (Aveyard, 2015). The analysis shows how strong female protagonists in young adult fantasy are postfeminist heroines who reinscribe patriarchal power structures, embrace limited understandings of gender roles, and persist in relationships that oppress them. In the second section, the monograph introduces empirical data from a series of focus groups discussing those same novels. The discussion shows that readers respond to these popular young adult fantasy texts with complexity and nuance that highlights their postfeminist subjectivities as they simultaneously reject and reinscribe elements of postfeminism in their understanding of the girl protagonists.

In the Cursed Land, there is nothing more dangerous than the memory of happiness… Harper O’Neill figured that, after surviving the attacks of a murderous goddess Badb Catha (and saving her mother in the process), her journey was over. But fate, it seems, has other plans: Sauvie Island, a Portland tourist trap that used to be famous only for its high prices, is now… changing. Mists cloak the island, and Fae enchantment is transforming what used to be a kitschy vacation spot into a labyrinth where Badb Catha's Fae lurk, waiting to feed on the bodies and minds of the unwary, and on the very souls of the dead – including the spirit of Harper’s own father. Harper has to act. To face the soul-devouring Sluagh, to release her father’s spirit, to save her best friend, and to protect the world from the clutches of Badb Catha. Again. Only this time, it’s different. This time, the Fae have discovered Harper’s weakness: a need to take back the future Badb Catha stole. Now, trapped in a magic dreamworld of the life she should have had, Harper has to decide whether she wants to live in a perfect fantasy, or fight to save her father and her best friend from fates worse than death. While preparing for the big event, a handsome town resident catches her eye. Leonard is kind, charming, and a little bit mysterious. He’s also suffering from a highly unusual condition brought on by an ancient fairy curse, and he’s too wary of Charlotte to allow her to get close. Like Gail Carson Levine's books, Merrie Haskell's middle grade fantasy adventure Handbook for Dragon Slayers mixes magic, mythical creatures, thrilling action, and a wonderful cast of characters. Political upheaval sends Princess Tilda fleeing from her kingdom in the company of two hopeful dragon slayers. The princess never had any interest in chasing dragons. The pain from her crippled foot was too great, and her dream was to write a book. But the princess finds herself making friends with magical horses, facing the Wild Hunt, and pointing a sword at fire-breathing dragons. While doing things she never imagined, Tilda finds qualities in herself she never knew she possessed. Handbook for Dragon Slayers is a deeply satisfying coming-of-age tale wrapped in a magical adventure story.
