Jasper Smith of Maidenhead, New Jersey, was the son of John Smith of Bedford, New York, and many of Jasper's descendants are contained in this book. The earlier records are taken from the New Jersey genealogies "Smith families of Bedford, NY and Maidenhead, NJ." Later records were researched by various members of the Smith families in census records, county records, wills, cemetery records, Bibles and personal family records. Some members of this family moved into central New York State about 1800. From there many of them migrated to Pennsylvania, Michigan and further west. Of course, some of them were very difficult to find and some were never found. The authors have tried very hard to include as many of the descendants as possible. Entries span eleven generations, from number 1, John Smith (ca.1650-1694) to number 1099, Randall Joseph Stephens (born 1970). Entries typically provide: full name, date and place of birth, date and place of death, names of parents, date of marriage, name of spouse, names of spouse's parents, names of children (most provide date of birth), and place of burial. A full-name index completes this work.

The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.
