To travel to other places, we do not just need a hotel to stay, a restaurant to eat, or a map that will direct us. But we also need to know the customs or culture of the place to be visited. The latter is often neglected because they think that everything will be normal. While, knowledge about the culture or customs of a place is essential. This knowledge will allow us to help enjoy the place we are going, avoid problems that may occur, and keep us from embarrassing actions. The knowledge about the culture is necessary to go abroad with a much different language and culture. Even going to other cities or provinces of the same country, differences in customs can be found. Ignorance of culture and customs, including rules and laws that apply elsewhere, can get us into legal problems such as fine or even subject to imprisonment. As an example, when we cross the road, what is certain is that if you do it carelessly, you will be punished. However, the penalties that apply in one country will be different from another. If that happened in Indonesia, for example, maybe the punishment would only be a warning. However, if it is done in another country such as Australia, the penalty is around $70.00 or Rp.700,000; and it must be fulfilled. What would you do or how would you feel if that happened to you? Not only the bad feeling is there, but also there will be the feeling or desire to go home so that your trip is disrupted and cannot be enjoyed. This book reveals various kinds of customs that apply in Bandung. When it is written, it is a law or rule that must be oneyed. But, habit is not written and it is a custom that if you follow it you will be liked and respected by the surrounding community. But if you do not obey it, you will feel the displeasure of society on you. Habits are sometimes effortless and small. But we must believe that knowledge of this habit will lead you to comfort and enjoyment when you are in that place. This book contains many unwritten customs and rules in Bandung and its surroundings. But it could be that this customary rule applies elsewhere throughout Indonesia. Many habits have not yet been incorporated into this relatively small book. But hopefully, this book will provide new knowledge for those of you who will be in Bandung and its surroundings so that you can enjoy the existence of Bandung. This book was originally a student's final project in the English department of the Bandung State Polytechnic. However, because the benefits are quite large for tourists visiting Bandung, this manuscript is published so that it can be read by many people both at home and abroad. That is why this book is written in two languages: English and Indonesian.

Where can one go to find the light when everything seems getting darker and darker? Who would lead us and show us the way to go back in track? Who would give us the assurance that no matter how bad the circumstance is, that life still has meaning, Who would guarantee that all will ends well in the end as long as we dont give up and keep on trying? Where can we go to find peace amidst predicament and uncertainties?
Matthew Van Dorn, in fact, the writer of this book, was born and raised in Amsterdam, but on first sight, clear of tropical origin, son of a white Dutch mother and a white Dutch stepfather. After his turbulent youth years in the Amsterdam of the early fifties and sixties, plus an early marriage, he is becoming increasingly interested in his other, Indonesian, branch of origin. His mother Rosa plays a crucial role, in the spiritual development of his life: A kind of a love-hate relationship. He decides to make a trip with a travel group through Indonesia to hopefully find something of his roots. This book deals in particular with that journey and the ups and downs of such a travel company, with flashbacks from his early childhood and the story of his biological father from Indonesia as the second story-line in Flash-backs.
