LD Smith knew life had been different for her, harder than it should have been. At the age of 12, she began feeling sad much more often than her friends, who seemed fairly happy with their lives. But it was at age 12 that the abuse began and LD first attempted suicide. I lie in bed fearing the sound of footsteps on the stairs. Footsteps now in the hall. The door opens. The door closes quietly. Then the sound I fear the most, the click of the lock as the signal my nightmare is about to begin again... Adult survivors of abuse and molestation and those with mental illness are often told to remain silent, to discuss their lives in dark corners and in hushed tones. Shatter the Silence seeks to break that cycle as LD Smith candidly and eloquently tells the story of her own journey-and it is not pretty. It is not a fairy tale, and unfortunately it is reality for so many. She invites you to join her and learn what being strong really entails. Know that it is possible to stand proud and speak loudly the story of survival.
Teen Waves is based on several youngsters’ journey. Each poem has a tale to tell, as it is about He, She and They. How do their quests find a direction and transform? Why and how guidance and advice being acknowledged at the right moment could alter their lives? Do they learn to make choices boldly, yet how it impacts them? These emotions will tether you, leaving you with a feeling of a horizon being stitched with a silver lining. It is about a youth, standing tall and welcoming the waves creeping steadily towards them. “Facing each soaring wave fiercely!”

Seven-year old Stepha and his little brother Vanya never mistook their Russian village of Unkurda for Eden, but after the Communist revolution in 1917, they found Hell. The two were among the millions of children cast adrift by a succession of soul crushing events. War, revolution, epidemic, and starvation, all conspire to force even the youngest of them to mature beyond their years. The brothers, armed only with the memories of their dead mother and absent father, vow to do more than just survive. They swear a blood oath to reach their dream or die trying. Their dreama far off place they know only as America.
Across America and around the world, the five love languages have revitalized relationships and saved marriages from the brink of disaster. Can they also help individuals, couples, and families cope with the devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD)? Coauthors Chapman, Shaw, and Barr give a resounding yes. Their innovative application of the five love languages creates an entirely new way to touch the lives of the five million Americans who have Alzheimer’s, as well as their fifteen million caregivers. At its heart, this book is about how love gently lifts a corner of dementia’s dark curtain to cultivate an emotional connection amid memory loss. This collaborative, groundbreaking work between a healthcare professional, caregiver, and relationship expert will: Provide an overview of the love languages and Alzheimer’s disease, correlate the love languages with the developments of the stages of AD, discuss how both the caregiver and care receiver can apply the love languages, address the challenges and stresses of the caregiver journey, offer personal stories and case studies about maintaining emotional intimacy amidst AD. Keeping Love Alive as Memories Fade is heartfelt and easy to apply, providing gentle, focused help for those feeling overwhelmed by the relational toll of Alzheimer’s. Its principles have already helped hundreds of families, and it can help yours, too.
This book of inspirational poetry was compiled by me consisting of events, movies, modern times, and most importantly, people who have had a dramatic impact on my life. It is with sincerity that I hope people will be touched and rely on faith to march forward both in simple and difficult situations. I was inspired to write this book by my mother's devout dedication to her Catholic faith and how she carried it out every day. My mother spent her time doing things always for others and her needs were put on hold. During my darkest times, she would remind me to "keep the faith" so that she would have a respectable legacy to leave me with.
